I find that when I go to bed with a face full of snuff, I invariably wake up stuffy. Is this common and is there any way to avoid it? I've been using wet Q-tips to clean out my nose, is there a better way?
I do find that I get very stuffed up and suffer from drainage at the back of the throat at night if I go to bed without cleaning out my nose first. Personally I don't find it necessary to wash my nose out with saline. I just blow my nose and fish out any excess with my finger before I head to bed. Gross but effective!
It is best not to go to bed with a nose full of snuff as it will dry up into adobe bricks and make you stuffy. What works for me is daily cleaning with saline spray and a good deep cleaning every few days with a neti pot.
i aid my finger cleaning with those small white cotton handkerchiefs. they are thin, soft, and absorbent plus you can easily tell when your finished. the only downside is that it looks like you were wiping something besides your nose with it.
@Troutstoker: But it is such a plesure falling asleep with all those nice feelings that snuff provides. But I agree with you, it is better not to go to bed with a stuffed nose.
I usually use fingers and soft cotton paper hankies. Discretely of course. I am going to buy myself that saline solution spray today and try it.
At night first Saline solution spray & blow my nose followed by a hot steamy shower. cup my hand to catch some of the shower water and inhale that water up near the back of my nose and blow.
I agree Trout- I usually go to bed with a little Jockey Club in my nose...I also do the same thing as Kim with the water cupped in my hand...and same method with the handkerchiefs...I don't use saline solution, but I do sometimes use this big plunger that was meant for cleaning ears- but just blast warm water in my noses.
Oh yeah- where the heck does fine dry snuff go? One other thing...probably a bad thing...but I love SP type snuffs so much, that when I take the medium coarser types, I just swallow whatever goes down my nostrils to my throat. Same thing with most plain snuffs.
