In my neck of the woods, the government is, ahem, "giving" everyone a $100 cheque to offset a carbon tax that comes into effect on July 1st (Fiscal conservatives take note: this will cost about $450 million) and to promote "green living". However, my life needs more brown than green and I wondered: how would you spend $100 on snuff and/or related products? A big order from Snuffstore or Toque? A silver snuffbox? A bunch of wooden ones? -

I'd try to find find some sort of antique apothecary to store and display my snuffs. Then with rest, if there was any, I'd buy a bunch of F&T varieties as I've never tried any them and they have cool tins/bottles/tubs/jars...whatever you call em.

I'd buy a silver snuff box and another box by onefortheroad, 1lb of Wilson's SP100, 5 tins of Toque Original and one of each of every Fribourg and Treyer.

It would depend on where you spend it. Your $100 would only be worth about $50 if you spend it against the British Pound. I would probably get a few bulk bags of Toque, stock up on Bespoke G&T & a case of SG Black Coffee or maybe look for a nice antique box on ebay. Or get a set up to grow tobacco indoors all year round or better yet buy the material to make a hydroponics growing tub with dual spectrum lighting. Or buy the material to build a small greenhouse specifically for tobacco so I can still grow when the snow falls.
Or your almost half way to buying a kilo of Spanish Jewel. -

Where I'm at the government is giving us six hundred dollars each for no good reason. Too bad my wife has already spent those monies before we ever got them. I do make tips at work though and the next hundred dollar bill I get will be used to snort a big fat line of Taxi Red! Then of course I'll have to surrender it to my wife. ( honestly a tip of one hundred dollars only happens once a year or so ) -

I agree with Walrus - a silver box from ebay; wait a while if nothing takes your fancy but you do get some great bargains coming up - I got a beautiful silver box for $30 (see 'Snuffsters little collection') and TS has also had some great buys on there. I would the get a onefortheroad box or one from Tim at Snuffstore and whatever is left I would spend on Toque and Wilsons.

So ho hard is it to get a kilo of SJ? I was under the impression macalpe was the only one who could get it and it was quite a hassle for him.
I've never even tried it but if it is half as good as everyone says I wouldn't mind having a couple of years worth jarred up somewhere. -

Well once Pedro finds enough free time, he has to place the phone call to the master craftsman & its a little hard to communicate because of the difference in dialect. Pedro then has to send the money, then the snuff is sent by private currier across Spain, this is where some of the price comes from. The craftsman Mr. Salabert only sells his precious powder by the kilo. -

As my good friend and forum's fellow Troutstroker said is a very hard job to buy snuff from Mr. Vinyets Salabert :
1.- He don't sell less than 1 kg.
2.- Yo need to pay before (€.-150). I use to do a Bank Transference
3.- He don't use the Spanish Postal Services ( in Spain is not allowed to sell tobacco privately; we have a Tobacco Monopoly of the State/Government). Then I have to pay the cost of a private curier Company ( 22 € more or less)
4.- He is completely retired from 4 years ago. Then he only have a stock of S.J. of about 15 kgs at the date of today.
5.- The phone callings with him are a TORTURE!!!!...he comes from North East Spain and the country people speaks with a dialect really impossible to understand.
CONCLUSIONS :
The snuff from our Master Craftsman is one of the best snuffs never maked in Western World. Also he does all the process to have his snuff, including sow seeds and plants growing and re-collection.
I think is a true shame and important lost to have no more Spanish Jewel Snuff. And is very important to know Mr. Vinyets is an 87 y.o. man!
Maybe would be a positive idea if we create a group buy and from different sites buy to him the rest of his stock.
I may create a bank account special for this work, and the interested fellows may do their straight transferences to this account; when I recive the bank notification I will send a receipt to the money sender as guarantee his money is in my bank account.
The thing is this is the only way I may use, because I have not enough money to advance the purchases.
Another important thing is the minimum purchase have to be of 500 grs.
You can be sure I will have no benefit at all with this bussiness.
I would be very thankful if you add new ideas to this proposal.
