I carry one like that when I'm on the river panning but mine is a bright yellow plastic version. I like the yellow for the reason its easy to see if I drop it in the river.

I use a Toque bullet when outdoors fishing or working with dirty hands. Just refill with whatever I want.

I have a used Packard's club container (I like this snuff). The container comes apart and can be filled with any snuff. Very handy dispenser on this one.

I also have the wooden box with the dowel. I like this box. It feels good in my pocket and I use it with dry fine snuffs like Irish High Toast 22.

I have a small glass bottle with a small spoon. I don't use the spoon usually, but just tap it out on my "thumb pocket" (anatomical snuff box)

Favorite way to snuff is with a pinch of fingers. But I also really like taking it directly from the back of my hand.

I think that small container would be too hard to pinch into with fingers and wouldn't be very good at tapping out the correct proportion. Maybe better for storage. I have one, but use it for pills.

There's very little information about snuff in China these days. As Roderick states, snuff taking was one of the old traditions suppressed by the Communists when Mao came to power. I cribbed the following off one of Graeme Steele's post on the Yahoos' Snuffbox: "Unfortunately, the snuff to go into the bottles is harder to find. I
asked wherever the snuff bottles were to found if people took snuff
these days. "Some old people do, but the middle to young age groups
smoke cigarettes" was the reply. Eventually, after a lot of
persistence, I did find some snuff in a traditional market far away
from the tourist areas. It was sold bulk and was packaged by weight
into paper envelopes. I only found one variety and it was fairly
fiery stuff - I would say unadulterated tobacco with a hint of spice.
It was extremely fine and dry with a medium to black colour. I took
it over several days in addition to the three snuffs I brought with
me.

On one day I saw an elderly man taking snuff from a eye drop bottle.
I did my best to communicate with him (my Chinese is limited to a
restaurant menu) and he kindly gave me a pinch. The snuff was the
same I had found inthe market. I shared some of my snuffs with him -
F&T Old Paris, F&T Dr. James Robertson Justice's Mixture and Samuel
Gawith's Grousemoor. He really enjoyed them and in comparison to what
he was taking, they were richer and more aromatic. I made up some
packets for him and he went away quite delighted.

Cigarette smokers are everywhere and there are many local brands,
also some Western makes made under licence. There also a few middle-
aged pipe smokers, smoking the most enormous bent stem briars I've
ever seem in regular use.

It is sad to see so little presence of snuff in China today - a
country that once had a huge liking for it."

Well then! Thanks for that post. It looks like Toque has a potential fortune to make...in China.
