I work in a hospital and come across bad smells almost every day. This morning I had a patient who smelt so bad I thought I was going to puke, I went into the next room, took a pinch of the snuff I had with me then went back into the room and it dramatically reduced the horrible smell, I could still pick it up but it wasn't anywhere near as bad as It was before, I was able to concentrate on my work then leave without being sick...

This could be a handy technique for anyone who comes across bad smells in their line of work so I thought i'd share it

Aaaagh! The refreshing smell of a Geriatric Ward at Eight O'clock in the morning!

Maybe someone could come up with a Bombay Duck snuff, that would be a close imitation!

I have read that it was common practice for doctors to take a few big pinches of snuff and a cup of tea before entering a house where there was infection so you are just carrying on a long tradition!

I've found that the h and G C and M snuff works wonders for killing offensive smells.

It was used back in the day to mask odors when the people and the towns weren't so sanitary.

And they also thought that disease was caused by bad smells - the miasma theory.

ha, thats a little different than the version that kids in the US sing.... Imagine people thinking they could keep herbs in their pocket to ward off the plague.

    Ring a-round the roses,
    A pocket full of posies,
    Ashes! Ashes!
    We all fall down!

You know when I was reading Lazarus's version I was thinking what the hell is he talking about its Ashes! Ashes! but I kept it to myself figuring their must be differences in where we grew up. So thanks for introducing me to your version as until today I didn't know there was anything else.

well before you could see little germs and bugs I guess terrible smells causing disease makes a lot of sense. side note malaria means bad air.
