I just received a new batch of snuff through the post yesterday and I'm impressed. All the flavours are new to me but thankfully the 'gamble' paid off.
They were; McChrystals Apricot, McChrystals Raspberry and S&G Wild Duck
Both the McChrystals are very sweet (especially the Apricot) but enjoyable. I have a sweet tooth but I don't think they would be 'everyday' snuffs for me, too sweet...I reckon if I snuffed one of those all day i'd feel a little unwell by the end!! Lovely to use in the evening time though I think.
The Wild Duck is a different story. I don't know if anyone here has ever pinched this snuff before but its really unusual! I can't quite put my finger on it but one scent I did manage to get (believe it or not) was raw carrots! Weird eh? Maybe its just my nose but my wife caught that smell too. Despite the unusual smell I did enjoy it, not too dry and a great dark colour, goes up the nose nicely, definately one I would order again.
If anyone with a more developed nose has tried the Wild Duck and has picked up any particular scents I would like to hear from them.
Mints combined with tobacco can produce surprising results particularly if it's done subtly. Spearmint snuff reminds some people of beer. Your "raw carrot" aroma is the combination of tobacco and the peppermint.
I must say the Wild Duck has really surprised me, its climbing the list of my favourite snuffs and I reckon after a few more pinches it may become my favourite snuff (so far anyway) its so easy to pinch and has so many complex flavours!
Since yesterday my nose has developed a little with regard to this snuff and I am now picking up scents I didn't before. I am now getting fruity flavours almost like mulled wine and a hint of cheese! No duck yet though...;o)
The word 'Carotte' in F & T's French Carotte has nothing to do with a carrot vegetable. It is the term for a roll of tobacco. I think French Carotte is sandalwood in flavour.
Goto Professor Philips Griffiths Website and click what is snuff. http://www.snuffbox.org.uk/#What%20is
nah i spell it carrot because I do detect it in there. and they even claim it's got french carrot oils added to it. Now the wilsons has the sandalwood and no carrot. I swear it's true.
Snuff Head your right on the sandalwood. You can read about it in the booklet produced by Fribourg & Treyer called 'Behind the Bow WIndows'. You can download this booklet on this discussion: behind the bow windows Just click on the link on the first comment to download the F&T booklet. The info of the French Carotte can be found on the second page.
I just ordered two more tins of that glorious stuff - High Dry Toast & Old Paris...never tried either before so I can't wait for them to arrive. My plan one day is to have one of each of their entire range
Old paris is what I'am sniffing now. It's awesome. though somewhat strange. Very sweet and sour really, nice touch of burnt scent (very subtly in my opnion.) The high dry toast is still on my too try list.
