Agreed - I reckon if you can capture that smoky, peaty, slightly salty aroma of Lagavulin or Laphroiag you'd be on to a real winner.
Normally I prefer blended whisky to malts (I'd be drinking Johnny Walker Blue Label every night if I could afford it), but I dip into the Islay malts occasionally.
Ok everyone, thanks to Rodericks persmission I have made an online poll to keep track of the results of this thread. I made it really quick so it is nothing fancy but it does work. Right now it will allow you to vote as much as you want, but I can view the results based on unique user if need be. So please head on over to www.albrauneis.com/poll.php and cast your now Officle Vote! -Al
Nice touch, great idea. But the problem with being allowed to vote as much as one wants is that its not a very accurate way of running an official vote. Someone with more free time can just sit there all day and repeat votes until they get what they want.
I have already taken that into consideration. YOu can vote as many times as you please and it will record it, but I also tally unique votes. So when you are viewing the results page right now you are seeing all votes, I can just as easily make it only show unique votes. The reason I did this was because I haven't asked Roderick how he wants it, and it will be up to him. So don't worry I know who is voting more then once! Also as a note, if you do vote more then once and it is decided to let everyone only vote once then it will be your FIRST vote that gets counted. So if you change your mind, please remember your first vote counts.
You could spoof IP, log in from different terminals, have friends sign up and vote for you, and whatnot... but I don't think anyone would want to hijack a perfectly valid public opinion like that :P
Well allowing only one vote per IP is enough security for this poll. Yes people could go through the trouble of casting multiple votes using one of the methods above, but to go though that they must really really like their flavor of choice! So since I didn't program this poll to vote for our next President (USA residents), I am not going to worry to much about it.
Hah, durian fruit. Now that would make a snuff to remember and wish you could forget. My brother brought one back recently from an asian market in San Francisco. It smelled just like gutting a goose but tasted like a sweet custard. I saved some in a tupperware bowl with lid for my other brother to try when he came up the following week. I told him you have to smell this delicious fruit. He opened the lid and took a big sniff then started to gag and dry heave. It was the best thing ever.
I tasted Abalone, deep fried jelly fish, ducks web feet and Durian in an amazing Chinese restaurant in Boston a good few years back. I have to admit it was a sensory overload and the best Chinese food I have ever tasted. So when I was in London’s China town, with wife and kids, and spied a Durian I had to buy it. It didn’t smell bad in the Chinese market but when we got back to the car we had to drive home with all the windows open. My wife wouldn’t let me have it in the house, so it stayed in the garden shed until friends came for a barbecue the next weekend. The reaction was predictable, what I didn’t predict was the reaction of the rubbish collectors on the following Monday; they point blank refused to take the leftovers away. Which meant it was up to me, I wasn’t going to risk putting it in the car as it was pretty ripe by now so I strapped it on my motor bike and took it to the local dump. I swear people were gagging as I went past and my bike stank for a week.
If anyone thinks I'm going to make a Durian snuff, the only words I can think of are 'when hell freezes over'.
Ha LOL! Its the only fruit that has such strict travel restrictions based on scent alone. You can not bring them on airplanes, trains, buses etc. I thought it would be a fun prank to send one to an unsuspecting friend. Tell him its a delicious fruit and to cut it open before it goes bad. I could see Jones Soda Co. making a Durian Cola as they make all sorts of crazy Limited Edition Jones Soda like Turkey & Gravy Soda, Christmas Ham Soda, Christmas Tree Soda, Applesauce Soda, Jelly Doughnut Soda, Latke Soda
I see some of you still voting by posting to the forum. Well if you didn't know we are running an online poll to vote for the next Toque flavor. This poll will end on Sunday June 8th, so make sure you get your vote in. If you havn't voted yet online please do so as only the votes on the web poll will be counted. So head on over to the link below!
@ betonent that watermelon ice cream bar is awesome. Used to be a Korean grocer that I'd always buy candy and porn from (the candy always asain the porn american)
Whiskey and honey, Clements. That is my vote. And if that whiskey could taste like Ardbeg... that would be a great thing, because Ardbeg was the first whiskey I have ever tasted, so it is kind a personal...
