Hi, I'm Pieter and I started snuffing about a year ago. Used to smoke cigarettes, pipe and cigars for about 39 years but had to give it up because of Angina. Guys fitted a couple of stent all over my body and told me to quit smoking. But I love tobacco, started smoking when I 14 years old. In South Africa, where I live, we have a very limited choice as far as snuff is concerned but I've now realized how easy it is to order snuff from abroad. I'm waiting for my first orders to be delivered.

Welcome Pieter, there are lots of us with similar stories and you can get a lot of good advice from some very knowledgable people on this forum. Stick with the simple method of taking a pinch whenever you want a cigarette and you will find it works - even a year is a short time with your smoking history. I stopped heavy smoking a year ago so understand how it feels. If you do lapse don't worry about it and get straight back on the snuff. Hope you don't mind the advice!

Welcome Pieter. I'm afraid you're eventually going to have to do what the doctor says. Over the last 10 years, I've gone in 4 times to have stents put in. I was stupid, and didn't start eating right, and didn't quit cigarettes. 3 months ago I went in again, and instead of a stent, I had a quadruple bypass. NOT a tiny little scar on my thigh where they went in and went up through the vein. This time they cracked me open like a Christmas turkey. It's been 3 months and I'm still not 100% yet. I'm going to be fine, but I'll always have a 10" (25 cm?) scar down my chest that my kids think is "creepy". The snuff doesn't bother me at all like the cigarettes did. Someone offered me a cigarette the other day, And I decided to try it, (like a moron) but afterwards, I craved snuff, not another cigarette. After 30 years of smoking, I think I've got them beat!

    Cheers,
    Java

How do I make a new topic? I wanted to ask how much snuff everyone uses in a day...I use between 3-5 grams.

bryan, you would use the link on top left that says "start a new discussion". But if you want to chime in on some of the similar discussions already started, here are some links:

How much per day? Comment #4 on this link has some more links to other similar discussions.

    How much do you consume?

    Heya guys,
I recently discovered the joys of snuff taking thanks to a German exchange student who lives with some family friends. My first pinch was that of Poeschl's Gletscherprise and I wasn't hooked off the first one, but found myself wanting more within an hour or two. Since that first pinch, I've been unable to put the stuff down! He generously gave me a 10g "tin" of this snuff which is nearly gone after a lot of sharing that occurred at the bars over the weekend. I think I successfully turned about 15 people on to nasal snuff. I've been known to dabble in all sorts of tobacco products and I can enthusiastically say that snuff taking is one of my new favorite forms of tobacco.

I decided to make an order from the Snuffstore website which conveniently arrived during my lunch break just a few moments ago. I picked up some Poeschl's President, Gawith-Apricot, F & T Morlaix, Wilson's Kendal Brown, and McChrystal's O & G. After opening the package I took the time to smell the pleasant aroma of each one and now I cannot wait to try them! I love the floral scent that the F & T Morlaix produces, it's so different than what I expected. I have only taken a pinch of the Gawith-Apricot and I'm quite surprised at how easily I can differentiate between that and the Gletscherprise I have been taking.

About time I said hi to all our new members, welcome.
It was only the other day we were talking about who would be the 300th member, then we very quickly hit the 400th member and now we're already looking at who will be the 500th.

Hi All: A Google search on Ashtaroth Snuff just led me here and it`s great to find such a civilized forum devoted to my favorite vice. I'm a British expat resident in Japan and my career as a snuff freak began around thirty years ago when a friend introduced me to Fribourg & Treyer snuffs. Their Santo Domingo quickly became my favorite, although I also used to enjoy an occasional pinch of Seville and a few of their other varieties. Unfortunately the quality of F & T snuffs declined after the business was sold and these days I use Samuel Gawith's Kendal Brown to satisfy my craving, although there are probably better things out there. The snuff situation in Japan is rather pathetic. There is a name for snuff - KAGI TABAKO - but, unlike in China, it's never been very big here and if you take a pinch in public you draw a lot of curious stares. Only a few varieties are available in Tokyo, mostly mentholated which I don't care for, and I have my Kendal Brown sent from England. I'm hoping that the forum may provide a few leads to other suppliers of the the strong, dark, coarse, moist snuffs that I like, and also that I'll be able to make some sort of contribution. In the meantime, my best wishes to everyone.

Although it's available you have to look very hard to find it. I found only two shops, and all they had were small tins of just a few varieties. Japanese are good sports, especially over a drink, and are always interested in trying a pinch, but I doubt you would get many taking it up as it looks just too peculiar to them, and that initial bout of sneezing is usually enough.

    Welcome Scratcher,
I have a few customers in Japan. From the names I would guess they are European, however a couple, I'm sure, are Japanese. Have you ever met any Japenese snuffers?

    Hi Roderick:

In over 30 years I've only ever encountered one Japanese snuffer and it was one day when I was on the train in Tokyo. I was taking a pinch and this fellow walked up to me and asked if he could have a pinch. After taking it he thanked me and then walked off. I was amazed, as normally you just get a lot of curious stares, and since he didn't sneeze I guess he must have been a regular snuffer. It's a pity I didn't get a chance to have a chat as there can't be many like him over here. Where you can have a lot of fun with snuff is when you're out drinking and people become curious. You can usually coax the bolder ones into trying a pinch and when the sneezing starts it really cracks everyone up.

    Hey scratcher

Welcome to the forum, this is one of the many I found searching the web when I first started snuffing. Now its really the only one I visit. The people are great and all get along, as you can already see. So what are you doing in Japan? I always wanted to visit but then again there are a few places I want to visit. Maybe someday I will have the time and means to do so.

    Hi Everyone,
Quick hello from an Irish Snuffhead.
Snuff used to be commonplace here long ago, but now it is almost impossible to buy off the shelf. O&G is available in places, but not reliable. there is one bar in my local town which still serves, which is good, but nothing really for it only to stock up with big online orders.
When you pull the box out in public, you still get a strange reaction, but some of my friends now are regular social users (i.e. they like a bit when they are a bit drunk).
I find it hard to believe when some of them say "how do you put that stuff up your nose, its terrible for you??" and 5 minutes later they are burning half the periodic table into their lungs for their nicotine fix, I hope I can turn them with perseverance.
Cheers to all the rest of you snuffing the internet.

I can find America snuff easily at a variety of stores here in the Southeast US. But European snuffs are near impossible to find locally. One of the tobacconists in my town has two boxes of Gletscher Prise and that's all. And he was charging a mere 100% more than online prices. I just hope US doesn't ban mail-order tobacco purchases anytime soon - or ever.

I can still get Poschl Packards, Apricot, Gletcher-Prise, Garett Sweet, or Garett Scotch at different local stores within 5 minutes of my house just south of Los Angeles, CA. But none of those are my favorite (Scotch is the closest, but not an all day snuff for me), so I order online.
