Well, if they do, a forum for fans of nasal snuff will give new meaning to the phrase, "Up Yours!"

I've just bought one of these little beauties, and have to say they are brilliant! For me personally I love snuff, but I miss the habit of the hand to mouth action on smoking, this solves all the problems and hopefully will completely get me out of the habit that I can't seem to shake off. Really good idea for those who miss the habit of smoking. 10/10

Walrus, welcome to e-smoking. They do the same for me. I almost HAVE to have something in my hands -- or I want a cigarette again. E-devices give my hands the same crutch cigarettes used to. I have an e-cig, e-cigar and e-pipe. I also use De Kralingse snuffs, snus, Oliver Twist and a real pipe on occasion. Why settle for one way off the cigs? Use what feels right at the moment.

I got my first E-Cigar from E-cig.com today and I have to say I'm disappointed. Either I got a faulty product or people are lying when they say it tastes a lot like real cigarettes. It tastes synthetic and somewhat sweet, and not at all like tobacco.

Who said it tastes like real tobacco? It doesn't. It tastes like flavored damp air. Just as someone grows used to the flavor of a favored cigarette, so a user adjusts to the vapor taste of e-smoking. The nicotine is there. The flavor will come as this technology develops.

When I want smoke, and real tobacco taste, I have my pipes to choose from.

One more thing: Not sure what flavor came with your product, but "flue-cured tobacco" is better than "regular" or "light" tobacco flavorings. And "extra high' nicotine is the way to go if you've been a smoker.

I hope these things catch on purely to annoy the anti-tobacco/free choice lobby. Im not sure I would trust myself to not get back on the cigarettes though, it sounds a bit too close to smoking whether you light it or not

Since they are fairly new I wonder what the long term side effects are with inhaling a nicotine vapor?

Good question, Troutstroker, on the long-term effects of inhaling the vapor. But it's mostly likely not nicotine that will be a concern. The nicotine is contained in a solution that is 80 percent propylene glycol. That's a safe-to-eat substance, approved even for intravenous use. But no one has ever INHALED it as vapor for years. We e-smokers will.

In the lungs, PG breaks down into acetic acid. That's the same stuff your muscles excrete when you exercise and "feel the burn." PG can create a burn, too. I feel it in the back of my throat -- and cough sometimes. But it's sure healthier than cigarette smoke.

Overall, the practice appears as safe as can be, and thought is being given now to making it a health-promoter, by putting either medicines or vitamins or herbs in the solution. With vaping, there's a whole new way to get good stuff into the blood in a hurry. Inhale!

tropcalbob: that last point of yours i find rather interesting. so the e-cigarettes would be good for inhaling just about everything that can be diluted in water? like asthma medicin, cough balm and all that?
  6.  # 45
Any inhaled substance would have to be carefully considered. It CANNOT build up on lung walls, or catastrophe would result. No oils or wax or particulates. But chemicals in solution without those properties might open up a whole new way to help specific conditions, yes. This is a new area of exploration best left first to medical labs. They're on it as we speak! Nicotine AND health .. what a concept.

They sure are having trouble pushing the new insulin inhaler that Pfizer's had out for a few years. It was made for those diabetics who are afraid of needles. But they have had a hard time getting approval because the long term side effects are unknown and no one wants to back a product that could potentially be dangerous. Their biggest concern with using an insulin inhaler is for those who smoke or have lung disease. Pfizer has now planned to do a health study until 2019 to help get their product pushed.

It's just been in the news. Pfizer pulled out completely and took a $2.8-billion loss. This should never have been attempted. Study subjects were asked to inhale powder! That's a foreign substance as far as the lungs are concerned, and they fight it with an immune response. Result? The test group had six lung cancers, and the study was stopped. Put insulin in solution, vaporize it as is done by electronic cigarettes, and try a new inhalation study.

They might even succeed as we do with nasal snuff. We don't snort snuff into lungs, but let the nasal membranes absorb the nicotine from the snuff. Why couldn't powdered insulin be absorbed the same way -- along with some Latakia A/P, of course! :)

They do have two types of insulin inhalers. One is a powder form like you mentioned and the other is a liquid. I know they have an insulin mouth spray and a patch that are supposed to work. So if the powder form of insulin inhalers were pulled, I wonder what is happening with the liquid form?

I guess you would have to find out how much powdered insulin is needed per dose before you could decide to snuff it!! It may be too large amount to snuff?? They just need some of that sugar based tobacco-free snuff!! Better than eating a cookie when you blood sugar is low. :~)

Hi Guys - i'm fairly new to this forum so excuse me if this publishes incorrectly or something.
I can however relate to these new electronic cigarettes very closely as I have just started using one. It is a heaven-send for me because before I was spending a fortune on cigarettes and having to put up with my clothes smelling and now I spend barely anything and no smell! I truly belive that whoever created this deserves a medal and to answer Rodericks question earlier - i'm fairly confident that there is a market for this and your collegue should continue.

I'm not entirely sure about the cost of these things but I do know that they're going for £60-100 and around $160 - managed to find one for £30 quid from http://www.cigstar.co.uk with a free shipping offer and now they're providing me with refills! Superb!

Hope this helps and for anyone not sure I definately recommend going for one.

Since e-cig woke up this thread, I'll put my 2 cents worth in. I honestly don't think I'm going to see cigarettes outlawed here in the states during my lifetime. Yes, they'll pay lip service to the antis by limiting where you can smoke, but they won't outlaw them. Evil Nasty Bent-On-World-Domination Big Tobacco makes about 10% of the price on a pack of cigarettes. Those that transport and warehouse the cigarettes make about 10%. The retailer makes about 10%. That makes 30%. The other 70% is taxes. That's based on what we pay in Georgia. (about $4 a pack) If you live in NY or California, the numbers are more like 5/5/5/85. Does anyone think Federal, State, and local polititians are going to give that up? How many millions of us smoke a pack a day? Every day?

    Cheers,
    Java

A pack of Marlboro's in Mass went up on July 1st from 5.50 to $7.00. That's a $1.50 increase in a single day. All of it is taxes as well.
