Nightcap is completely right. Nicotine raises your heart beat and expands your veins. So alcohol is transported to livers very quickly and there is transformed into acetaldehyde, which causes the effect of being drunk. Add to that the nicotine hit to your brain provided by snuff and there is no doubt, you could get smashed very quickly.
I'm no doctor, but I have a feeling the the Nicotine is speeding up your metabolisim. Thus "metabolising" alcohol at a faster rate. So a higher blodd alcohol level then with out the snuff. Plus the increased heart rate. Also alcohol will dehydrate the system, and depending on how hydrated you are at the moment, will also increase the "buzz" so to say.
It's all good. Using snuff makes my head spin if I'm drinking too much. So, I cut back on the drinking and enjoy the snuff. It's much less of a hangover the next day.:)
I believe there is a difference between speeding up your metabolism and metabolising alcohol - that happens in the liver at the rate of one unit per hour and you can't speed it up; which is why all the old 'beat the breath test' myths and gimmicks don't work (there was a good 'mythbusters' show about that). I think the slight lift from the nicotine increases your awareness of the effects of the booze is all.
I like it with strong beer as well -very cold 'Special Brew' being optimum...yep, I'm a wino..
I know the liver works at rate one unit per hour, but with faster heart rate the blood is circulating quicker and there is a big blood circuit in the liver. So I think it can affect the speed of metabolising alcohol.
Well, Ive exhausted my scant amount of medical knowledge - it would be interesting to get a qualified medical opinion. Anyone know a doctor or biologist?
You can't beat Special Brew, mind you I'm on something a bit weaker tonight but tastes a million times better. Back to the old favourite of Stones bitter with Toque Original. Beautiful!
Snuffster: Burnley! Thats only about 10 miles from me. Stones is still going, but many micro breweries have produced guest beers in pubs now. Much more variety in beer than there is in snuff which is why I buy snuff online.
About 30 years ago I had a newsagents shop and inherited a display card of Gawith snuffs. The rep. used to call about once every six months and I may have sold one tin since his last visit!. Cigs were comparatively cheap then and people weren't looking for alternatives. I smoked Silk Cut Red in those days which a doctor acquaintance recommended to me!!
