Have you ever had one of those snuff that just disgusts you so much it doesn't deserve the tin which it resides in? I'm not talking about the snuffs that you first have a hard time with at first, but those you truly know you will never appreciate. Wilson's Rum & Blackberry is such a snuff for me. I can't describe the taste better than "dog poo". In fact I gave it yet another shot yesterday, because snuffs I initially disliked had come to my liking at a later stage (like Wilson's Irish High Toast which I finally have started to somewhat like). I was so disgusted by this last pinch I flushed it down the toilet. I've heard positive reports of the same snuff which makes me think there was something terribly wrong with my tin.

So, have you ever thrown away a snuff you really didn't like?

Only a few snufs a purchased which I am sure were very old. A tin of Wilson's Lavender which was packaged just like a tin of Poschl Ozona Cherry with the spinning top which opened a small hole on the side, except it was plastic,my guess is it was from the 1960's or 70's. My only regret is it was probably a classic tin of Wilson's worth keeping just as a collectors item.

And 4 different tin of Dean's Swift, Apricot, Cherry, Strawberry and SP which were bought from the same place and I figured them each to be extremely old as they actually hurt to take.

By the way, the place I purchased these from was a nice brick and mortar store in Champaign, Illinois called Jon's Pipes and Cigars. I just think snuff wasn't selling well for them and they had old stock. I did pick up a couple of snuffs which were quite usable such as Wilsons IHT and Poschl Ozona President.

I think you got a bad tin, or your nose just doesn't respond well to Blackberry Rum. Some people don't care for it. I happen to like it from time to time. The four tins I have from Gawith Hogarth - passed along to me from another forum- all seem to have a distinct soapy smell. I am keeping the tins for my collection but Jockey Club, Dry Orange, Fleurette and Strawberry will never have a place in my rotation.

I have never thrown away a snuff. Doubt I ever will, my moods as well as my sense of smell constantly change, so what I don't care for one day I may like the next month or so. I also found that mixing snuffs that I do not care much for with other more enjoyable snuffs sometimes works very well. For example, didn't care at all for F&T's Old Paris, but when mixed equally with HDT it becomes extremely enjoyable.

Yeah stitch, I was pretty disappointed with the GH Strawberry as well. It had this strawberry incense scented soap scent to it. Kind of like snuffing shampoo.

Well deans swift just hurts in my opinion. I think it's the worset snuffs I've tried. As far as throwing away snuffs my ozana fruit flavored snuffs. It wasn't that the scent was displeasing to me as much as the fact that they clog my nose and I don't like the scents, love president though which also can clog my nose too.

I threw away a tin of GH Kendal B (I think thats what it was) when I first started snuffing. Didnt like it all. Now I wouldnt throw anything away. I think I need to go through my box though and separate the often used snuffs from the hardly ever (or never) used snuffs.

I will never throw snuff away. It's not like it takes up much space and you can always save it for a possible trade. As far as the Wilson's Rum & Blackberry, I'm not too fond of it myself. The one snuff I absolutely hate is Packard's Club Snuff by Poschl. I get the feeling it was made for old men with no taste. Still, I won't throw it out.

Ah no, dont knock the Packards club... thought having said that said that I have a tin in the cupboard that I have not touched for about 2 months. Im basically a Toque (all flavours, though chocolate and original (which I have ran out of!) are my favourites) and McChrystals man now.

It was a 25g tin too. But I needed a tin to fill up with my toque refill bags so I saved it for that.

packards club seem kind of scary too me. I've never tried it but it seems to have strong reactions in the people who've tried it.

I've thrown out some that was just too old and dried out to use. If it's one I really like, I hate to throw it away, so I'll mix a few pinches of it with some thats newer, until it's all gone. The only snuff I've ever thrown out that was in good shape, was a sample I got from Mars. It was labeled "Magnet Menthol". I used maybe a gram of it, trying to learn to like it, but to me, it just smelled like menthol and feet.

Oh, and for the record, I really enjoy Packard's Club.

    Cheers,
    Java

At first I threw away snuffs that I hated and never thought I'd try again, but now I'd never throw away a snuff unless it had dried out. I've noticed that my preferences change so often that I never know what will appeal to me next. Of course the problem with never throwing snuff away is that I have an ever growing snuff collection and not enough nose to put it in.

Yeah, except for that one sample, I've never had to throw any away unless it was completely dried out. Sometimes one just sort of tastes OK, and I'm not using it up fast enough, but throwing some Royal George, or SM500 or Pompadour into it will normally be enough to move it up in the rotation until it's gone! I sort of discovered this one weekend on a trip. I had the above three with me, plus some Ozona Orange. The third day of the trip, I only had enough pockets to take two of them out with me, and I discovered all four were nearly empty! In a pissed off haze, I threw the RG in with the SM500, and the Pompadour in with the Ozona. WOW! Both became favorites by the end of the day!

    Cheers,
    Java

Ive never done anything more than a few pinches of any Smith's snuff, and probably thrown a bit over the years - excepting Cafe Royale which is their only really good product IMHO
