Mr. Snuff Please Consider
  • Adding a hold service to your shop. I pretty much have to get my snuff by about 2 or 3 big orders each year. So I don't want to be missing some of the snuffs because of that. I think as long as people cant use a hold to buy too much of anything in particular, it would be nice!
  • Funny, I was just thinking this last night since my order has to once again be postponed due to a forgotten bill. Of course there would have to be a limit on it. However you could just wait untill everything you want is back in stock.
  • Waiting until everything I want to be back in stock is why I only order  twice a year, last was London brown, about 4 months. I blame high shipping rates more than anything.
  • While I agree I would like such a feature, think of the nightmare for Dave. I think it's highly difficult and would result in Dave losing sales. That said, if he decides to do it, I'm in. :)
  • I don't like the idea much. Unless there is some way to guarntee you actualy buy everything you hold.
  • I think it would be better if he had some sort of back-ordering system where you can buy a product that is out of stock when you make your big order and than when it is back in stock it gets shipped out to you and after a certain amount of time you can choose to either keep it backordered or get a refund if it takes too long to come back in stock.
  • Now that is a suggestion. That would be great.
  • Yeah I agree. I don't think it would be fair when I couldn't get something that's in Mr. Snuff's warehouse because someone else might buy it in 6 months. I do agree with @n9inchnails though. Maybe some system where you could pay for something to be shipped out when Mr. Snuff gets it.
  • I like the back-order suggestion. There are some I would gladly prepay to make sure I got it.
  • and that would also probably help defray cost too because demand would be slightly clearer. Just my thoughts on the subject though. Considering I've never run a successfull bussiness (or unsuccessfull for that matter).
  • I wouldn't mind putting in an order of snuff that is on order and getting charged for it when it comes in and having it all shipped out at once.  Even with the delay in the six photo stuff that happened last year, I would have loved to be able to place that advanced order.  It could be a logistical nightmare in the warehouse though.
  • True that would have to be a book keeping nightmare. The good thing is he gives us a heads up here when out of stock items are coming in.

I almost always have a little tobacco money put away so I don't miss the fleeting opportunities....
  • I was very happy with my first order from mr snuff. I'm not too fussed about it, if something is out of stock it gives me the opportunity to try something I wouldn't have picked otherwise. If I'm desperate I'll shop around.
  • I don't mean to be a complainer, just an issue that I wouldn't have if I was ordering all the time. However, it gets to the point where you try to get one thing, while you're waiting for another, then by the time the second gets stocked the first dissappears. In the past when I had less knowledge of what I'd like, it was easier to go with the flow. Now I have regulars to my rotation that I want to get every time, and a lot of specifics that I really want to try as well. I'm not complaining about the service, I really like Mr. Snuff! This would just make things quite a bit easier for people like me.

Oh, and I don't want to create a monster in the warehouse, but if it wouldn't be a total disaster, you know, I'm just sayin'

  • I have wanted to get then lost interest on many snuffs due to the one of them out of stock syndrome. Nothing licks the acquisition disorder better for me than having a choice run out while waiting for another to be in. I don't really care so much because I already have snuff that I should use first anyway. So I just lose interest. There will always be new snuffs to chase around with a hole in your pocket. ALWAYS!
  • point taken, but still... Just had one in my cart dissappear while waiting for another to get stocked, and waiting to make a deposit in my check card account... kinda bummed... but I'll live
  • My point is that Mr. Snuff is not making the sale and that it would be in HIS best interest to set up some kind of system like you are suggesting as a solution.
  • Yeah, and I like to support his business.

I refer snuffing folks to his company, and he will continue to get my business.

  • I really appreciate the suggestions/feedback.

The problem as you have discussed is implementing things in such a way that errors are not made. I understand completely the frustration of things running out while waiting for another. trust me it is a nightmare from this side too. Manufacturer delivery times (from date of my order) range from 3 days to several months, with the time being variable. For example SG sometimes takes 2 weeks and at other times have taken as long as three months. It makes it very difficult to plan ahead. Customs doesn't help with international shipments.

Back order sounds the easier of the two, but when I start to think about it I can see difficulties. it would be fine back ordering something like Wilsons (which we effectively do with the bulk), but others like say Dholakia would be impractical. As things stand if we turn on true back ordering (Wilsons is manually implemented) then it is all products or no products. There may be some sort of module we can bolt on, I'll take a look.

Meanwhile my goal is to stock up enough of a buffer of everything so that I never drop below a minimum that will tide me over to the next delivery based on, or rather dependent on, predicted sales and estimated delivery times. That has to be balanced with keeping those snuffs that have shorter shelf lives fresh. Fortunately most snuffs last a long time (I have some Wilsons and F&T from the 80s and a Navy from the 40s; all are still good). Also it takes a lot of cash. We have somewhere in the region of 1600 SKUs so keeping up with all that doesn't leave me much time to play on snuffhouse, which is what i would rather be doing ;-)

That goal combined with the new automatic emailing system we have implemented at the product level should help a lot. I am not sure if you are all aware of this function, but at the product description level, bottom right of the page there is a "Notify Me" button. If it is out of stock and then comes back into stock you are automatically advised. If it runs out again though you have to repeat. The system will only ever send you one email per product you sign up for.

We are designing a MrSnuff V4.0. It will be a couple of months but you will see significant differences in the navigation layout. The idea is to make it more intuitive and easier to drill down to the products you might want. If you have anything to stick on the wishlist, let me know.

    Hope that helps.

    Dave
  • Thank's dave! I definitely wouldn't want to pester you when something is just too impractical. There are definitely some I hope for, many of which would be some of the S. Gawiths in the 25g tins. So speaking of wishlists, is there (haven't noticed one) or could there, be a function to highlight products which one, for one reason or the other, cannot include with one's current order, but want to remember and making that compatible with the back in stock notification. I think that would be the best way to go, unless or until it becomes practical to do a hold/back order service. Also if I was to contact you, should I just email your cs? Thank's for listening.
  • @MrO: thanks for your understanding. Regarding the SGs in 25g tins, OscarWabbit made the same request some time ago, and in fact was good enough to root through all the product and highlight which ones were missing. They went on my last order a couple of weeks ago, so with any luck those you want will be there with the next delivery.

I think we might be able to deal with the other functionality with a wishlist. I have seen this on other sites where you can add a product to your wishlist then at a future date convert the wishes into realities. As you say, that combined with an email reminder for those items out of stock would pretty much cover it.

I wonder also if we could set up something to send out an alert if a product is approaching being out of stock? Would that be useful?

Best email is definitely cs either directly or via the contact us form.

    Dave
  • A great saleman doesn't do everything you want them too, but like dave they are respectfull enough to say something about it.

  • though any other old timers think man you should have seen how it was years ago. There where more mystery I'll have to trade with a local to even try that then there are now.
  • @mr.snuff:  Dave, if you can get SG lavender gold in 25g vacuum tins, sign me up!
  • Mr. Snuff- that would be a great way to go if it works out! Lessee, what do I want that you don't have? It's a very short list.... do they still make the old Dr. Rumney's in the tins? I think I might of liked the brown label Dr.R.  Are/were the Jaxon's any good? I think after the new SG's come in there's little if anything that I see missing. Although I do have the thirst for the obscure... I guess there could be stuff out there that I don't know that I need yet   :)

Thank's Dave I really appreciate what you do for us snuffy people!

  • Thanks for pointing out the Notify button to me and the rest of the blind shoppers :D!
    That will come in handy
  • Oh, and what's the deal with the Smith and Son's products? I've heard the Golden Cardinal mentioned briefly in passing, same deal with the Cafe Royale, are they really something special?

  • Note: some(if not all) out of stock items are getting "zeroed out", and I cannot click them for a back in stock notification. Also curious, will some of the restocks (esp SG's & Vikings) be back in about the time the Abraxas shows up? Just trying to figure the best time to dial in an order. Thank's and good day!
  • The idea of a wish list is a good one. That would solve my ordering issues if shopping cart persistence isn't possible, and it wouldn't tie up stock on your end, especially if combined with a notify-when-back-in-stock button.
  • Mr.Snuff, problem solved, thank's!

btw, I like the new eta schedule for out of stocks.

Btw, it would be cool to have a "I love snuff- Mr. Snuff" T Shirt (with a pocket for snuff of course), I'd pay for one... just a thought...

  • The notify option is handy but I would like a "Wish list" So I can keep track of stuff on the site. That would be very handy.

With that said, thanks Mr. Snuff for having such a cool site. Just got my order in and it was a day before I expected it!
  • Mr Snuff- Sorry to keep bugging you so much, but the discount code banner on your site keeps dissappearing and reappearing. I'm planning on ordering asap so if it's still valid please let me know.

  • What discount code man? I didnt get a discount code...!
  • There is/was a 10% discount  banner if you scroll down to the borttom of the page, as recently as last night/today.
  • The code, while still available, is MRSNUFF. You can use it once. After that the cart will tell you that you have already used it. So order big!

It doesn't always pop into the screen for some reason.
  • It was there when I ordered a week ago, except I think I used MRSNUFF10 or something like that. Between that and my rewards, it really can knock a chunk off the bill.
  • Thank's a bunch guys! I ordered huge! I might be sent to sit in the corner, but 'tis worth it!
  • Hey guys,

that is a pop up banner that is SUPPOSED to be for first time buyers to encourage them to take the plunge. Theoretically it is supposed to relate to your login and work out if you are a mrsnuff newbie or not. I guess it isn't working perfectly.....oh well. I might have to get on to IT to tweak it. I did notice a few familiar names who definitely weren't newbies but used the code. Mr O...glad the others helped you out; I wasn't too sure what you meant at first.

BTW: Don't apologize for buggin me: you're not. All feedback/questions/constructive criticism etc is definitely welcome. I have had some of the best ideas from snuffhouse.

One idea from here which we will implement soon is the wishlist. We have the module ready to go, we just have to test it, install it and hope we don't down the site!

Wait till you see mrsnuff v4.0. I can't wait to get that rolled out. Funky new menus that allow much simpler drilling down to whatever you want.

Also we are testing another idea: let's say you are looking for McChrystal's OnG. Right now you have the option of selecting British, McChrystal's, the size, then the flavor. 4 steps to get to OnG. Well the new way of doing it is to create a parent 'product' with a bunch of children. So instead of being faced with having to select a size, you select a flavor and all the sizes are listed as children underneath. From that one page you can put whatever you like in your cart in whatever quantities with one click. It is really cool...at least I think so :-)

Point is...keep the ideas rolling out. Whatever makes things easier is always good. I am a firm believer that if someone is having difficulties on the site that is our problem (fault) not the user's. Websites should be easy and intuitive to navigate for anyone...even my mother. When she booked herself four seats on a flight one time, that is the fault of the website designer, not her. Just because she thought that if she shut down her computer and started again her problems would be solved, well.....so what? Seems dumb to a digital native, but she's a digital immigrant, so what do you expect?

Anyway...you see my philosophy on things. She should have been able to easily see that she had screwed things up and been presented with an option to do something about it before her credit card was charged four times; or even if after, it still should have been easy and intuitive. (have to admit though, it did make me laugh a little. Just the idea of her panicking and switching everything off, even to the extent of unplugging her computer. Like that would achieve anything! But at least she is online buying stuff unlike many of her generation who are convinced it is 'not safe'. Like it is any 'safer' to hand over your card to a sales clerk or phone it in.)

Obviously as the site grows and we offer a wider and wider selection (over 1600 items and growing), it becomes more difficult. But again that is our problem. Hence the reason your input is so valuable. So thanks for any and all comments!

    Dave

  • Good to deal with you Dave! The new format sounds good,  that'll save me some time and effort! Do think about the T shirts though, unless there's another stupid law about advertisement on clothing..

    thank's

  • Wishlist: hooray!
  • Also if one's cart automatically sorts items into groups of brands, so it's easier to see which items have been added, and which have not.
