The Gletscherprise seems to be an acquired taste to me. Don't give up on it, though! I hated it the first couple of times because the Columbia Oil (whatever that is) has a distinct smell that I didn't think was for me. I grew to like it-though it isn't in my 'everyday" favorites...
omegapd, I havn't visited Iwan Ries for over a year now, but the last time I went (summer 06) I took the elevator upstairs and immediately to my right when I walked in the door was thier snuff display. To be honest I made a quick few selections then quickly checked out due to the fact I was illegally parked out in front in downtown Chicago. I plan to make another trip up that way sometime soon and will take some time to check and see if they have a snuff sampling bar...
Greetings Slatter, I'm fairly new around here as well, and been snuffing for about 3 or 4 weeks. I haven't tried any of those yet. I've been enjoying several of the Wilsons, and the F&T's As all ready stated, it's like pokemon to me, gotta catch em all.
Hope you enjoy your order, if not, try other flavors there's soooo many to chose from :) Do you use any other tobacco products? Yaz
actually i am from texas and yes i do use other tobacco products. i smoke cigars(for little over a year) and one nice(aleast to me) pipe(for about 6 months) and i also enjoy snus(for about 3 months now) when at work. i was looking to this as somthing i could possibly do at work ,like the snus, where smoking is a very big hasle and as smothing that would sumplement some of the smoking also. it was getting rather expensive.
Welcome slatter from Texas, Wondering what pipe tobaccos you smoke. I've been smoking one cigar every weekend but I'm thinking about buying a pipe and I'm looking for suggestions on tobaccos. And why Iwan Ries? Do you get cigars or pipe tobacco there? As for snuffs have you checked out Mars Cigars. Big selection, good service and best prices I've seen. I'm sure others on the forum would agree.
OFTR, I'm looking for suggestions as well, I can't do without my hand to mouth fixation, and need something at home. Just got me 2 new pipes. I usually prefer sweet flavored things with mild to medium tobacco taste. I wish I still had my meerschaum, darn it. Yaz
hey slatter relativily new too. Definately good choices on the snuff in my opinion. Nothing great but definately easy too use and far above decent. :) p.s. I smoke a pipe got two good ones. Brebbia iceberg and a meerschaum church warden. Use snus at work too.
well so far i have had W.O. Larsen- 1864. this one is my FAVORITE. it has a nice sweet taste almost reminds me of figs or some type of fruit. the only other stuff that i have smoked are some of the local smoke shops custom blends. the only pipes that i have is a small sampler meerschaum pipe and a italian briar. i really do like my pipe and the only reason i got it from Iwan is that none of the places that i know of here in plano sell it and dallas is kind of a drive
Though I've yet to try it, I've heard people sprinkle snuff on top of their pipe before lighting it. I imagine you don't want to try this with a weird combo like Gawith Cola and an English blend. I've been smoking pipes for almost 10 years now. I like bent briars. I have a decent number of nice pipes, like Nording, Savinelli, and Comoy, but my favorites are a few seconds I got cheap at my tobacconists shop. They're ugly as hell, but great deals and smoke fine. And as far as pipe tobacco, if you like sweet, try some MacBaren. I like English blends (not sweet), but every tin of MacBaren I've opened, I wanted to just eat it. Mixture and Plum Cake are great for beginners. Most Snuff companies sell pipe tobacco too. I have always loved all of the Gawith offerings, as well as F&T. And of course if you like good cigars, Ashton makes a wonderful pipe tobacco. Oh, and welcome to the forum :)
I agree with blender, head to your local drug store though, and pick up a Missouri Meershaum Corn Cob Pipe(about 7 bucks) and while you are there grab some Prince Albert or Half-n-Half to start with(good base tobacco flavors) and see if pipe smoking will work for you... oh yeah... resist the urge to inhale and smoke slow and learn a little about packing the bowl properly!!!
Oh corn-cobs! I didn't think of that. Yeah they're great. They don't last forever, and you don't want a wet tobacco in them, but the price is good, plus they give it a sweet taste. Half-n-Half would do great in a corn cob. Good call, Mo.
I'm all about the aromatics as well. I have been batting 1000 with McClelland's Premium Aromatics line, my favorite type being the "Best Of Show" or the "Easy Street". All of these have a distinct yet mild tobacco taste but are still sweet without being overpowering.
One of my favorite things to do is sit down to a churchwarden full of "Best Of Show" after a few pinches of snuff and read a book (right now I'm reading "The Alphabet of Manliness" by Maddox so the whole tobacco aspect is appropriate).
Try them if you get a chance, you might like them. I believe Mars carries the whole line.
Thanks Chas, I'll have to give one of those a go after I check tobaccoreview to see which sounds better. I'm still trying to get through the last stupid harry pothead book, I think I have 50 pages left. I need to walk away from the pc a tad more often. Then I'm off to read the Redwall series again, or at least reread the first couple and start from there.
yes, I'm a fantasy and midevil junkie, not so much sci-fi books
Redwall? Like Brian Jaques? Man, I haven't read him in ages. Great books though. He kinda turned me off after The Bellmaker though. Martin the Warrior was one of my favorite books for years though. Bet you like Dragonlance and R.A. Salvatore too, don't you? I'm reading The Iron Tower series, by Dennis McKiernan now. A bit too much like tolkien for my tastes though. I better stop. I could write a page on fantasy books withought trying.
I haven't made it to those blender, but yes, that's Brian Jaques. Martin the Warrior was also one of my favorites that I remember, I stopped reading them about the time Salamandastron came out. The Pendragon Cycle by Steven Lawhead are one of my favorites I have read. I quit reading books for many years as I was stuck on a stupid MUD for a long time. I really need to get back into reading.
Whats a MUD? Sounds dirty. lol Reading is good for you. I've read the Pendragon cycle too. It is really good. I'm guessing you would like the first three Dragonlance books then. Stay away from Robert Jordan though. The books are really great, long (around a 1000 pages each!), and there are 11 of them. Unfortunately, he died before he wrote the last one. So I invested like 11,000 pages of reading with nothing to show for it. Hopefully his wife and editor will come up with something. Yeah, Salamandastron was the book that got me started, and made me quit. I bought, didn't get into that book specifically, but thought the idea was great, read some more of the series, re-read it successfully this time, and pretty much stopped reading them. What a cycle.
