These have to be my three favorites! They come in cool, easy portion 10g containers (5g for the Silverstone), and are wonderfully mild and refreshing! The Apricot is definitely my favorite, slightly fruity with a light menthol touch. The Orange is non-menthol but has a robust, spicy orange scent and a slightly more coarse texture that is actually quite satisfying. The cola reminds me of the "Gummy Cola" candy if anyones ever had that, with an added touch of menthol, much like the apricot this snuff is also mild and refreshing!
I did not have the heart to try the Gawith Cola yet, because I heard it is really awful. Maybe I should give it a try sometime. I bought the Silverstone Orange once and just had a pinch to remind myself of the taste. It has this special kind of orange scent, which is quite nice. Not an all-day snuff for me, but when you like fruity snuffs you make like this one.
:-) PEZ!! That's great! It's EXACTLY what Silverstone is like to me, too, and I never thought of the description. Not that there's anything wrong with that, of course.
hey all nice to see your all enjoying the site Great <thumbs up> for that anyway the apricot was the very first one i ever tried got it from the only tobaconist in glasgow that had snuff at the time it was fantastic however the mcchrytals apricot is like inhaling a car airfreshner its soooo strong so i am going to have leave it for a few weeks to see if it calms down but definatly Gawith is the nicest apricot i have tried and it comes in the cool black flip top nice.
I've got some of the Gawith Cola...it's not all that bad, although I think that if it had more "cola" flavor, it would be much improved. It's got some, of course, but it's very mild, with a touch of menthol. I think personally that the cola flavor needs to be about twice as strong for the amount of menthol that's in it. That would make it tasty. But as it currently stands, I'll finish up what I have of it, but I don't know whether I'll order more of it or not.
Haven't tried the silverstone yet, but I have a supply of the G. Apricot. Now the Apricot I wouldn't want to be without in my "rotation". It's outstanding. Probably my favorite of the Poschle linup at the moment. It does have a small amount of menthol in it, and I really think that I'd prefer it without, but with the same cut, apricot flavor, moistness, etc. Then it would be a perfect 10 for me. Nonetheless...it's excellent.
Gawith Cola: Definitly an interesting experience. I noticed the menthol effect immediatly, and at first thought that would be all I would get, but after a moment, the cola flavor came in. I have to agree with the first post in the discussion in that it does have the distinct flavor of Haribo Gummy Cola candies. Luckily, I happen to enjoy them, and thus enjoy this snuff as well.
Gawith Apricot: This one didn't sit as well with me as I expected. It wasn't horrible or anything, but I really didn't sense too much apricot in the flavor. Not one I'd race to get a pinch of at this moment, but as everyone says, the ones you don't like today will be the ones you love tomorrow.
Silverstone Orange: This one was quite nice, in my opinion. A nice flavor to it, and yes, like poo-diddy said, I too would compare it to Orange Pez. The absence of menthol really helps with this one, as I could see it clouding the flavor quite a bit. Nevertheless, definitly one I'll be buying again, in larger quantities.
OK. So I've tried the Gawith Cola, and Apricot now.
I'd have to Agree with Tekid on his assesments on both. The cola isn't immediatly noticeable, however, moments later, once the menthol (or is it camphor) settles in and the cola comes through, and Stays well after the blow down. I only detected Apricot once...and only for a fleeting moment...I consider it a lost moment...;) I'll order the Silverstone Orange With my Next Shipment.
OK, I've changed my mind on the Gawith Apricot. This is a snuff that needs to be taken in fairly large quantities ( I usually take very small pinches, what with being aflicted with small nostrils and all) It seems to me, IMHO, if one can jam enough of this into his nose, the Apricot can be properly appreciated, if one waits for the menthol kick to subside, and inhails deeply...with his head stuck in the freezer ;) So, on second snuff, I'd order this again, but not in large quantities.
Gawith Cola: I really enjoy this snuff. When I first tried it, I could not smell much cola through the menthol, but did notice a big difference in flavor from the other Poschl snuffs, it is much "sweeter". The cola flavor is much more apparent to me now, and I really enjoy it, tastes like a cola that has gone flat, and is just syrupy water. I realize that doesn't sound all that appealing, but it is a very unique flavor that is identifiable and tasty, despite being compared to flat soda. It's definitely worth a try if you like cola.
Gawith Apricot: I didn't think I was going to like this snuff, and surprised myself when I did. It's not an all the time snuff for me, but I like having it around. The funny thing to me is the reason I didn't think I would like it is that I don't really like apricots, but after snuffing it, I realize that it is the taste of apricot I don't like, but I really enjoy the complex aroma the fruit has to offer. So in snuff form, this works out perfectly for me. This is one of those that I keep one tin of, and when I run out, I buy another, like the cola above; but I don't order ten at a time or anything.
Overall, I think that any of Poschl's snuffs are worth trying, as the quality is high and consistent. I like the Poschl texture and moisture content, and their flavors are all very distinctive and creative. I haven' t tried the Silverstone Orange yet, but it's only a matter of time.
If somebody here in the US wants to try Silverstone Orange, I've got a free box of it for them. It's only missing three pinches. :) It wasn't my thing.
Figured I'd add my review of Cola on this thread to keep everything in order and not start another.
Color: dark brown Texture: Coarse Moisture: slightly moist Tin Aroma: sweet, mentholated, syrup
The above review by Smarvy described what I've tasted too. The Cola flavor is not a distinct "COKE or Pepsi" type of flavor, more of a mollases and syrup flavor. I've had the same sensation when I bottled my own Root Beer one time and didn't let the bottles sit long enough for the natural carbonation to come out. In mine, the menthol flavor takes a back seat to the Cola. Obviously, it's there but it's not as strong to my tastes as it was to precambrian_critter above. Real tobacco taste is non-existant but I like it well enough to keep around as a change of pace. I have a feeling that this 10g will be around for awhile, though.
I just got some Silverstone Orange in today. So far I'm really enjoying it. It's not too sweet, so I wouldn't mind using it all day. I really like the fact that they left out the menthol. I wish they'd do that with more of their snuffs. My only complaint is that the orange scent doesn't last very long. The nicotine kick seems a bit lower than with the other Poschl snuffs, but I really don't see this as a problem. All I can say is I'm glad I ordered two :)
the first snuff i tried was the cola i liked it if fact i have some on the way now along with this supposedly hi nic gin and tonic snuff from bespoke i'll keep you informed how that works out
I the G & T is really good but I think the guy who wrote the review on mars was maybe a little bit too enthusiastic about the nicotine. I got some with my last order and, believe me, it is a great snuff but the nicotine content is definately a solid medium. Now, the free smaple of Taxi Red that Mike threw in there had alot of nicotine in it!
as I write this I am enjoying Gawith's Apricot...the menthol, apricot scent works in beautiful harmony, while the moisture content is on the moist side, and the ground is course... this was my first Snuff...Im still snuffing, so something has to be right about it. I wouldnt mind more nicotine though.
I agree on the Gawith apricot, but after using it now for one week i notice the apricot taste more than the menthol. Wich on the one hand is a pleasant expirience when you are outside, but on the other hand if you are in your house the apricot taste doesn't really kick in. I would reccomend Gletscherpriese for both indoor and outdoor use.
I really liked the Cola at first. I wish it didnt have menthol, but I got over it or used to it. Then it just got too sweet to me and Ive had to take a break for a bit.
Apricot is great. The menthol and apricot seemed balanced just right. If you havent seen some of the videos on Youtube of people doing lines several feet long, you should. I can see why it is a daily snuff for some people, and it is for me too on certain days.
You cant get Silverstone Orange anymore right? If anybody still has some and wants to share, let me know! The Ozona Orange definitely has menthol, and a lot of it, so I am wanting the silverstone now.
I have had both the Cola and the Apricot. A local cigarette store stocks some Poeschl brands. I really did not care for the Cola, it was reminiscent of Canfield's Cola (for those of you in the Midwest USA), a downmarket pop. The mixture with the menthol did not do it for me. I found the Apricot to be a nice step down from the menthol of Gletcherprise. I will probably use the Apricot again, but would not buy the Cola.
