    Royal George
    Wilsons of Sharrows

I carefully removed the forest green seal from this tin.. curious as to the sent that awaited me behind it. The tin came open and apart far to easily it is a dangerous one to carry around. But the tin came apart as explosively as the sent carried its payload to my senses. A burst of sugar (if you can believe it has a smell), cinnamon, clove, and even brown sugar almost knocked me back. With my first sniff I was impressed with how sweet tobacco could be. The powder was slightly course but dry and has a feeling of pebbles not sand in the hand. An interesting texture but an enjoyable one. I enjoyed the aroma greatly but .. I found that through the weekend with continued use.. it was just to sweet. The flavor i realized was not unlike a cinnamon candy cane, or a red hot candy. For those of you who want a super sweet candy snuff I recommend this to you. I will sniff this from time to time.. however... I am a admirer of the more complex flavor of tobacco and senting... so this will not place among my favorites. It is a very forgiving snuff though. Cheers to the manufacture for their ability to produce what is probably exactly what they were aiming for.

    -Chris

p.s this is my girlfriends favorite snuff :)

    Very nice : )

From what I read somewhere online, Royal George is vanilla, violet and rose. I can account for the vanilla and rose, but I'm not too sure about the violet in it. McChrystal's Violet is much more intense than this.

Funny, I thought this particular flavor (Royal George) reminded me of fresh diapers :P I know it sounds bad, but it's actually not at all! Wonderful snuff from Wilsons of Sharrow.

I like the Royal George alot, the closest thing I can think of to describe it's scent is Baby Powder.

Yes! I think baby powder is more appropriate than Diapers... :P

Do Ticos use cloth diapers? maybe that's why the description wouldn't make sense to us :) Disposable diapers don't really have a smell that I know of (fortunately I'm not too familiar with them).

    --keep your powder dry--

LOL!We use Huggies & such, although cloth diapers are still used in some rural areas.

Quite frankly, I don't know why I thought of diapers... it must have been at least 15 years since the last time I even was close to one. I knew it definitely had something to do with babies.

some people love this stuff. i find it an interesting blend of 20 or so flavors, but the aftertaste is just horrid to me. it reminds me of some of those little decrative soaps and almond extract. i love scented snuffs and use alot of them but i just can not get hooked on this one yet.

Frankly this is one of my favorites. Though before I tried Royal George I had tried primarily fruit flavored and mentholated snuffs. So it may be a matter less of quality and more of association with discovering how versatile snuff scents can be. Though I have also found it to be the perfect cold day snuff as it seems to warm my body up a little bit.
I definately recommend trying this one. As it is somewhat diffrent seems to create a strong reaction in people. When ever I let people try a pinch they either love it or hate it.

I think this is a bit sweet for all day use on its own, but I mix it with Wilsons best SP (about 3 or 4 parts to 2) and its fantastic. I like this so much that this mixture is now my all day snuff. I think on its own it would probably be a nice 'desert' snuff

I find this to be a very enjoyable flavor for me. I definately agree that it is not an all day snuff, and for some reason with me it always finds its way into my throat, I don't sniff it there, but somehow it always gets there and yes, I don't like the aftertaste much at all. One thing that I find interesting about this one is that it seems like everybody picks up a different portion of its flavor. For me it smells like vanilla and cherry, but also a little chocolate. A good cherry though, we are definately not talking cough syrup.

try mixing it with one of your favourite plainer snuffs, its really good at rounding off the more powerful ones like F&T Irish, which for me is slightly too strong on its own

Well I went ahead and mixed it with some best sp and I am floored. It smells and feels amazing like that. The funny thing is that it doesn't smell like the sp best at all, it still smells like the royal george but it has a much less intense smell. Thanks for the suggestions!!

I'm sorry to say but IMO this is a horrifically disgusting snuff.

I agree with Walrus1985 on this one, this is one tin I will never finish on its own. May try mixing it with others. To me the baby powder aroma is just awfull. To each their own, thats one of the good thing about the variety we have, there is something for everyone. This one is just not for me.

its definatley too overpowering on its own and I cant remember how I came to mix it with other stuff, but it just seems to work, im not a fan of menthol but I imagine a small amount would be quite good with a plain menthol snuff. Ive just got into mixing snuffs so maybe Im just happy with my creation!

I have grown to really like Royal George on its own. It's definitely a particular scent, and it can be hard to manage for newbies. But I really love it when there is already some snuff in my nose which acts like a throat-filter :)

I found the Royal George on it’s own was not something I could use for very long. I did come back to this one at some point everyday since I received it. I’m still trying to decide if I like it. I have mixed RG and Wilson’s Cherry Menthol 50/50 and this is one of the best snuffs ever!!! Any one else tried this?

The "flavor" wasn't anything I cared for much, either. I added menthol to mine to make it a bit more interesting but it's still not something I reach for often...

Not an all day scent, but amusing nonetheless. Kind of like snuff your grandmother's bath salts.

I find it to be a great all day snuff. I don't think it needs anything added to it. I keep finding new elements of scent in the Royal George. Though I think it might just be what they do with the extras of other snuffs they make, I think they might just dump a little bit of this one and that one together and then they have royal george.

I just picked up a container of this that I found at a local tobacco store. I noticed the baby powder scent first, but the afterscent reminded me of a delicate floral smell. Seemed like a more dry snuff; is this typical of Wilson of Sharrow?
  7.  # 24
Depends on which wilsons flavor you get. Some are dry and some are semi-moist/moist.

I too like Royal George, but I can't class it as my great favourite. I read on some site that it was a mixture of several scents including Violet, Rose & Vanilla. But to me it has the nose of almonds just like towler mentioned earlier.

I like Royal George a lot. The combination of the vanilla and almond scents reminds me of marzipan.

The smell of Royal George sends me straight back to my childhood. To me, it smells exactly like Play-Doh.

I think Helio has come closest to describing it as I have ever read. I just took a pinch and that is exactly what it smelled like to me as well, never could place it before but now, playdoh is all I can think of. Well done!

I can see that but it still reminds me more of some of the old fashioned soaps.
