This is a strong, moist, strong, coarse, strong snuff from South Africa. Seatbelts should be worn when taking this Taxi. According to a study done by a university in Pretoria, in conjunction with a researcher in Baltimore, “The pH and percentage of free base nicotine reported for the Taxi and Singleton menthol brands in the present study is indeed the highest ever reported for any industrialised snuff brand." Sure, they're talking about the menthol version, but I'm certain that the Red is no different.

This snuff is somewhat ammoniated, though not so strongly so as to be off-putting. After filling your snuffbox, leave it open for about fifteen minutes and the cat-pee tinge will very nearly disappear entirely. The flavor is unsubtle plain tobacco, with a hint of cigar, and which dissipates fairly quickly. The afterblow aroma is one of pleasant, mild tobacco.

Despite its strength, Taxi Red is easy to take. All-day usage may result in a slight soreness of the mucosa, but no more so than F&T HDT causes.

Should a smoker ever wish to switch to nasal snuff alone, this product would be just the ticket— its coarseness and moisture make it a good beginner’s snuff (provided that said beginner is used to nicotine, otherwise an airline sickness bag should be at hand.)

A word about the container— though made of an ugly soft plastic, it seals surprisingly well. And what, you ask, is the word “gwayi” that appears on the container? It’s Zulu for tobacco, of course.

Well it looks like Mars might be getting ready to sell Dingler snuff? They are passing out samples of the Taxi Menthol.

That's great, I've wanted to try that one also, I guess you got your order in then TS.

No, omegapd told me he received a sample of Taxi Menthol in his last Mars order.

I received in my order from Mars yesterday a crush box simply labeled "Taxi", by smell it is the non-menthol variety. Very course. May try the trick of leaving it open for 15 minutes, has that odd scent about it. Not a bad snuff at all though, definitely get the "hint of cigar" scent that Andy mentions. Would certainly like to try the menthol. I like it well enough that if Mars is going to start selling it, I would order both varieties.

You might want to shoot Mike an email and let him know you like it to ensure he sells it!! He might just be testing the water waiting for comments on it?

Excellent idea Trout, email has been sent. Told him I enjoyed it and asked if Mars would be selling the Dingler Taxi Red and Blue in the future. I will post his reply once I get it.

Got an email back from Mike at Mars, he stated that nothing has been finalized yet with a deal to carry Dingler. I can only suggest that people email him and let him know there is some interest from the snuff community in the product and that it would be beneficial for them to carry it. Lets keep our fingers crossed.

Very happy to hear that Dingler may soon be available here. I picked up container of Menthol Magnet from Rajeks a couple of months back. Also very strong and very very good. Mars should definitely add them to their line up.

So I tried this, and I have to be honest, I thought the menthol was bad. I sincerely hope to never have anything like this enter my nose again. I almost threw up, to me it smelled like garbage. I would have to admit though that I wish I had the ability to leave it in for a while to experience the nic hit.

Well, sounds like I lucked out on not getting the menthol! One thing I noticed though was that it was SO course that it just fell back out of my nose after I sniffed it. I ended up having to actually snort the stuff to keep it in my nose. It was like sniffing coffee grounds.

At least it didn't smell like a landfill :)

It's too bad you didn't enjoy it.

    cheers!

Actually, I didn't word that quite right. It was actually the regular taxi that I was talking about. It probably is a good snuff but the smell just makes me feel sick. The menthol smelled like a urinal.

See the first post about leaving it open for awhile to get rid of that ammonia smell BrianC. May help some.

I left my smashbox sample of the stuff open for about a half day which made it significantly more mild. Regardless of your opinion, you might want to email Mike @ Mars and let him know what you think about it.

I really liked the taxi red I got in a sample from Mars. I would order a whole heap of it if they did start carrying it. It would be nice to see a stateside Toque distributor as well; I could see a big order of the Natural and some Taxi Red.

yeah I tried the brunswick it's great. very similar to princes by F&T but diffrent enough similar grind and scent though again diffrent enough to justify getting it if it's easy to get (since princes is easy for me to get no reason to order brunswick.)

The nicotine for a nicofiend, such as myself, sounds just my ticket and I might give this a try. I don't fancy coarse grinds though. Is this more coarse than Latakia 1860? That's about as coarse as I care to go but I'd probably still give it a try.

    Hey all,

I've had the chance to try Magnet Spearmint and Taxi Blue (spearmint too). I really loved the Magnet Spearmint, like some users reported it's dry as sand, but the flavor it packs is great. It seems to me that Dingler's snuffs are Magnet for dry and Taxi for moist (the difference in texture, grind and moisture level is abysmal). They are both extremely strong snuffs, I think I've only gotten such a nicotine hit from McChrystal's Violet and Rooster.

On my latest order I also got a tin of Magnet Peach which is truly a wonderful snuff. Very dry, but as Troutstroker described in another post, it smells like a fresh peach. Nothing like Pöschl's Gawith Apricot which is clearly artificial. Also, there was very little menthol (barely noticeable) in Magnet Peach. While I love menthol, I've grown to like non-menthol snuffs too.

Magnet and Taxi are really delicious, I greatly recommend them both.

    @samorost

so the magnet is indeed dry... how do you manage to keep it out of your throat?
i really like the flavor too, but the amounts of snuff i swallow when using magnet are a bit disquieting.

Well I try to sniff it slowly, rather than sharply, with my head tilted slightly forwards.

I too get some of it in my throat too, but by sniffing slowly I manage to stop right when it starts hitting me, so it's not that bad at all.

I've just received an order today of Taxi Red, Wilson's Brunswick and DeKralingse's Macouba.

Taxi Red: This stuff is actually wet, and very coarse which makes it hard to stay up your nose, but it has a nice cigar flavour to it with a good nicotine hit.

Wilson's Brunswick: I think I'm in love! This snuff is as coarse as the Taxi and black coloured, but the flavour is lovely. There are hints of lemon, ginger and geranium in this one, very refreshing and long lasting flavour. Someone above said it is like F&T Princes, I'm ordering some of that when I've finished typing this.

DeKralingse's Macouba: This one is quite sweet with what I think is rose and it tastes like brandy as a back note, quite pleasant and another quality snuff from DeKralingse.

Sorry for ranting just thought I'd let you know what I think.

    Stefan

its ot, but i should undo the injustice i have done to magnet methol.
now that i figured out how to do it (the trick is to snuff with a bit more distance between snuff and nose than i was used to) it does not hit my throat anymore. and it is very good. earthy, a bit coffee-like and still not "dark" (as in schmalzler or other cigar-leaf snuffs). recommended.
