I finally got some Taxi Red. I like this snuff. It is very very coarse, it felt like snuffing dip! NOt that I've ever snuffed dip, but you could dip this snuff, if you get my meaning. At first it's scary to snuff such coarse material, but it is smooth, and has a nice mild flavor. No gentle sniffing a flower here, I almost have to hold my head upside down to get it to stay in! lol The nicotine is not so high as I expected, but noticeable. Nice coffee and earth tones, as others have mentioned. I'm glad I like it, I got 6 tins!
SOunds like good stuff, I have some taxi red sitting at my house right now. I havn't opened it yet though, I am currently working on an open tin of Magnet Menthol! That snuff is wonderful, I absolutly love it! The tin sucks and I spill alot every time I open it but god damn is the snuff so good.
I see you can get this in a roll of 10 from mysmokingshop.co.uk I'm going to order one of them as this has become my day to day snuff recently alongside SP100, Brunswick and Toque Vanilla.
I really don't understand how anyone can like this stuff? It shows how different all of our noses are...interesting...Anyone who wants the rest of my can- whisper me an address and I'll ship it out...almost full.
Taxi is the cheapest snuff available in South Africa. I bought 6 boxes today, not because I want the snuff, I want the "boxes" ! At R3-50 a piece, (1 pound = R15-78) I can actually afford to throw the tobacco away and only keep the containers. But, I find it one of the best "mixers" available. If you add it to any other dry, unflavoured snuff, it "melts" into that snuff, the wetness disappears but the nice, cigar like smell stays. I use only Taxi Blue, the Red is a bit strong for my liking. We have another local brand, Wilson's of Rustenburg, which is also a very course, menthol snuff. It also smells like the inside of a men's toilet in a bar when you open the tin for the first time. I place the snuff in a big dinner plate and leave it for at least 24 hours to get rid of that terrible smell. Then I mix in some Taxi Blue and Whalla!!!! I have a nice, strong, pure tobacco snuff, smelling all the way like a good, strong cigar. I had the same problem with Taxi, could not keep it in my nose because it's so course and wet. Mix it with something else, and the problem is solved.
Just to give you an idea of how cheap it is to me; 1 tin 25gram Taxi= R3.50 and 1 tin 25gram Toque= R47.00. I can therefor buy 13 tins of Taxi for the price of 1 Toque. And when it comes to other brands which I order from abroad, it's even more expensive. I cannot use it on it's own, it really is to wet and coarse. But, as I've said before, I find it a very good mixer and as such, I don't want to be without it.
Wow that is really cheap. I looked it up and R47 = $6.12 US which is about right for a tin of toque. That means R3.50 = $0.45 cents! For 25 grams that is great!
Taxi Red and Blue is delicious. Clearly the rest of you aren't trying hard enough and/or your sense of taste is wrong. (I know internet sarcasm is not easy to detect, so this is a disclaimer. I really like Taxi Red and Blue, but I can see why some might not).
I like the Taxi Red but haven't tried the rest. The burn is about the best of I've tried but you really have to give it a hard snort to get it where you want it. I can feel the nicotine but it doesn't bowl me over at all, this one's best to snort some hard and follow it with your favorite fine or HDT; this can help stop the cig cravings shortly.
The smell, while strong, certainly isn't unpleasant at all but with about an hour of airing a sweet tobacco smell starts to come through. It's a pretty nice flavor once you get it settled in the right spot. Newbies struggling with a nicotine 'jones' should really consider the Taxi/HDT combo.
the reason for the taxi's odd grind i think, as i do love the taxis, is so the nicotine absorbtion takes longer. As i have found with the taxis and the sg scotch (which is a very hard corse grind, guess they grate it like cheese) i do not crave a pinch for much longer then with any other snuffs including the sctoches, not to say that the nictotine rush is more intsence because it is not, they just seem to last longer the taxi last a long time.
Hate to say it, but Taxi Red is horrible to me. If you like it, maybe you'd like the Neffa Suffi- which has a nicotine kick MUCH stronger than Taxi Red- to me, and it's semi-fine, light brown snuff. I'm sure there's gotta be a way to find the stuff.
I've been thinking about getting a tin of this stuff, but forgot about it on my last order. Next order I put in will definently have some Taxi Red on it.
@bryan I'd love to try something thats "much stronger" than Taxi, but wasn't there a reference to it being related to some serious health problems somewhere else on this forum....of course I cant find that reference now. Is it available in the US?
Dude! The label on Taxi says clearly "will cause cancer"! You have got to love that. I also recommend Taxi blue and Taxi Rock "spearmint". I swear the tobacco in the Taxi line is alive. For those of you who don't like the grind of this stuff you can always adjust the moisture and take a pestle to it.
Oh snap, it does say "causes cancer", not; 'may cause', or 'can', it's straight up DOES! :P Guess I'm conditioned to it, didn't even notice. He was saying something about 'pneumoniamenic' or something, not used to that one... et c'etais en francais. :?
Neffa Souffi and pneumoconiosis ? Souffi contains chalk and chalk does cause pneumoconiosis if you get to much in your lungs. But I m not sure if there is really a risk with Neffa Souffi because i saw this information on just one french website.
It's my opinion that Pneumoconiosis is the snuffers biggest risk. I noticed that I don't cough out any snuff that I unintentionally get in my lungs. But if you consider the amount of other foreign particles that enter your lungs in your daily life you just might want to look both ways TWICE before crossing a street. (much more dangerous).
Ahh, that's what it is, like 'blacklung'. I guess then HDT's are a higher risk than the moister and med grind snuffs or is it mostly due to additives to the tobacco, if anyone knows?
No, using snuff doesnt cause pneumoconiosis. Some workers in the tobacco industry have got a so called tobaccolunge from tobacco dust. But pneumoconiosis is a much more serious disease.
Yeah it sounds like you would need a ton of snuff to cause a problem. Think about how much dust miners must breath in over years to get sillica lung or black lung. Plus I think the body can remove tobacco over time in small enough quanities.
