Be careful Dummy (sorry didn't intend to sound so rude, but could not resist) snuff should not hit the back of your throat. It sounds like your snorting your snuff, snuff should be gently sniffed. If you are swallowing snuff, you are putting your health at risk. Try sniffing your snuff, like you would a slice of apple pie, from a little distance. The snuff should sit in the front of your nose to be fully appreciated. Always let a little air in with your snuff. Good luck and keep snuffin'.

Garretts will be dry as a popcorn fart. It comes real dry.

Give this a try, Its not the norm but it works sometimes. Take a small pinch & tap your pinched fingers on the top of can to knock off loose snuff. Raise to nose so that your thumb and index finger nails touch the inside rim of the nostril. You want it just enough so the breathing is restricted. Now give short fast sniffs like you have the sniffles. Don't open fingers on fist sniff just get what ever is loose. With each sniff after that open the fingers a little more each time to let a little amount of snuff out. This may take 5 or more short fast sniffs for a small pinch. This method seems to work because the finger act like a wind break and cause the air coming in to be turbulent instead of just shooting straight up the nose. Try this method with various sniff strengths, finger to nose resistance and head positions till you find something that works.

You could also try breathing on it a few times like you were fogging a mirror to add a little moisture/weight to it.

You may also add just a little apricot, president or o&g to it. Just a little to add moisture/weight. Put some Garrett on the back of hand then give it a dusting with one of the other snuffs. Mix a little with finger, then pinch and sniff. You then can get use to this then transition into just the plain dry.

Remember too, once the membrane inside your nose is coated then anything else you sniff will simply not find a place to settle other than the back of your throat, so there's no sense in wasting good snuff by eating/drinking it. Just take a smaller pinch, when you get the pinch right there's not enough left after it coats the inside of your nose to get to the back of your throat.

    Hey Dummy,
If you like 'smokey' try Square Snuff, I actually find it tastes like barbeque. The flavor seemed a bit too strong at first, but has mellowed out a bit since opening the tin.

As far as Garrett's goes, I find both of them to be much the same as Railroad Mills, except that Railroad Mills has more burn. The Garrett 'Sweet Mild' seems to have very little burn.
