I've only been a snuffer for about 6 weeks now, but I'm finding that the first snuff I tried is the one I like best so far -- Railroad Mills Sweet Scotch. I just got my first internet order today which includes Railroad Mills Plain, Honey Bee Sweet, W.E. Garrett Sweet, & W.E. Garrett Plain.

I've also had Buttercup, President,Tube Rose, and Square.

I didn't like the Buttercup or President. The Square I kinda like, but I think the barbeque flavor is too strong. The Tube Rose is just so-so, but I added some cinnamon to it. The Honey Bee is nice, I like it, and the W.E. Garretts both are just like the Railroad Mills. So of the nine I've tried so far, I basically like the one I started with. The Honey Bee though is growing on me and will probably become a staple. To be fair though, all of these (except for the President) are from only 2 companies - American and Swisher.

I haven't tried the Euro snuffs yet, I will, but I think I will probably still like the American Dry Snuffs best. I'm not interested in any medicated snuffs.

So how much has your first snuff influenced you?

Well for me it hasn't been a certain brand but rather the type. And that is Scotch Snuff. No matter what I try, a Scotch Snuff is never out of my rotation.

I would say maybe. I've been using snuff for about three months or so. My first was Ozona Raspberry. I've also had a few other Poschels, and several American. I no longer care for the Ozona, but the Gawith Apricot goes with me everywhere. And I respect your love for American snuffs, but they are way too dry for me. I lightly sniff a small pinch, and they burn a trail down my throat. The aroma is nice while it burns though. Its a shame too, because they are everywhere in my town, but I have to travel to another state for the Euro snuff.
Any tips you have to keep American snuff controlled would be appreciated.

My first ever was McChrystals O&G, and lately after going out of rotation it has come back in big style. I've never tried American snuffs though I'd like to, I don't think you can get them in the U.K. I'm also never without F&T High Dry Toast, and Hedges L260. I also like Gawith Apricot but need to order more, as well as all the DeKralingse's.

Not all the Americans burn. Honey Bee, and Tube Rose, that I've tried so far don't have as much of a burn. If it burns down your throat then you are inhaling too deeply. Try short quick (but not strong) sniffs, & try tilting your head back a bit to keep it in the front of your nose.

Some tricks that work are: Take a small pinch & bring up to nose. As you sniff only release a small amount of snuff from your fingers at a time. Even if it takes 2 or 3 sniffs to get it all. Another trick is to turn your head L or R and bring your chin to your chest. You can also try filling your lungs with air first. If you use a sweet American snuff and you sniff to hard, it won't really burn and you just get a sweet taste going down the back of your throat. All of the American Snuffs can be taken orally if you choose as well.

My thanks for the tips. I will try them out. I have some Square and some Peach somewhere around here. And as for oral use, Troutstroker, I'll stick to Skoal. :)

I love that old truck from the show. You never saw them drive it, except for Lamont driving it in the opening, it was always parked in the driveway.

My first suffs ( I started about a week, or a week and a half or so ago) were Gawiths apricot and President, followed by McC. O&G. then Garretts Scotch.I'm leaning towards the finer grind in the O&G,the Garretts is either completely dried out or just too fine a grind. At first I thought the president and Gawith apricot were really really good, but after some O&G they now take a back seat.Cant wait to get into the Wilsons and Sam Gawith stuff thats on the way!

The dummy is partaking of some 'Scotch'

My first snuff was W.E. Garrett Sweet and Mild, the pleasant experience I've had with it has created in me a preference for American Dry Snuffs. However, I still appreciate a course grind european snuff, provided it isn't scented to the point of smelling like candy. I've had the pleasure of trying hand crafted snuff from spain, and this has become my benchmark for flavor/scent. I truly appreciate a good cured tobacco flavor, and find it a shame to cover it with overpowering perfumes and oils. So I would say my first snuff influenced my preference of texture (grind), but not necessarily my preference in flavor/scent has that has developed over time with experiencing new snuffs.

Another way I use the fine dry snuffs is to take a strong pinch and seperate your thumb and finger. Bring the thumb up to one nostril and the finger to the other and sniff, so everything won't go in one nostril if you sniff too hard.

EW enjoying some Navy Sweet Scotch right now with that method.

I put in my 'introduction' post that I was introduced to snuff by a team member in the rugby club I played for about ten years or so ago.

The snuff he used was RedBull, I think due to potential mix up with another well known brand, but I digress...

He explained that he took snuff because it cleared his nose before a match and so most of our team before long started snuffing RedBull before a match.

I do have a general leaning towards the 'minty' snuffs and have fond memories of this snuff introduction... I have a couple of packets of RedBull in a drawer and often go back to it when I want a 'blast' from the past.

    Cheers
