@Onefortheroad, is that a '71 Cutless? Does it have a big block in it?
  1.  # 32
@ troutstroker- this was my daily driver til I got married. used to cost under $20 to fill it up. now it's $60. I laugh when people ask what kind of mileage it gets. I tell 'em if you check your mpg's on a car like this you shouldn't drive it, or even own it.

@ merdock69- its a '69 cutlass half clone of a 442 (442 grill, 442 rear bumper with exhaust cutouts, 442 glove box, etc. just need to switch to the 442 emblems if I ever decide to splurge and do the body work and paint) It's got a 455 rocket. About 450 horse and well over 500 ft/lb torque. If you stomp on it while doing over 100mph it will still put you in your seat.

@onefortheroad - ahh, I should have looked a little harder, the rectangular parking lights are a dead give away its a 69 or 70...
  2.  # 34
@onefortheroad, Yeah you definitely can't care about the gas mileage with a muscle car. My old 67 El Camino SS had plenty of tire shredding power. The only problem was that it was so light it the rear that it was hard to plant the power to the ground. If you stepped on it from a dead stop, you would sit there till you were spinning on rims. But if you were already rolling & stepped on it, you would loose your stomach like going down a big drop on a roller coster. Wasn't cherry on the outside but I didn't care. I'll have to dig up some pics & post them.

Just curious what price is gas in the states? In the UK it’s £4.94 a gallon £1.09 per litre.
Sadly my current car only does 20 to the gallon, 14 if you really push hard.
When I lived in Canada I had two great cars, a Mustang but it only had the 2.8 engine so was under powered and an amazing little Honda CVCC that went like stink.
I’m embarrassed to say, but I always wanted a tuned pacer, there was something about all that glass.

4.94 for us would be like $10 a gallon. I'll cry the day that happens. We're at like $3.50 here. Yeah those Honda CVCC's were something else. My buddies sister had one when we were too young to drive but we stole it regularly in the middle of the night to go joyriding. We'd try to chirp the tires in every gear, no matter how high you had to redline it. The downfall to those was that you could put 400,000 miles on it, but the body would disintegrate. We couldn't jack up the car for her to put on a new tire because the jack was just sinking into the "frame". Too bad some punks wore out her tires.

It's $2.79/gallon here in Dallas, TX. That would be 2.18 euro...

My mistake, it's $3.05 right now.

Its been right about 3$ here for a while. I don't feel quite as bad about remembering when it was a dollar a little while back now seeing that roderick is paying 10 bucks.

I had no idea, it's been 9 years since I was over in the states, I think it's the same price all over Europe, why on earth are we paying so much? About a year ago we had some protest action, I think we need it again!
  5.  # 44
Yeah the UK and areas adjacent, have had high fuel prices for a long time now. Around me locally, its around $3.45/gallon USD. The problem we are seeing is that the price has gone drastically in a very short period of time. As soon as you sort of get used to the current price, it jacks up again. It has dropped a little, a month ago I was paying $3.60. This same time last year, I was getting gas around here for $2.30/gallon. If we get this government refund being proposed, that will fill a lot of tanks. The last one we got a few years back was really nice.

Roderick, isn't there a high gas tax over there that is supposed to be used for road repair etc. We have a small tax on the gas for that reason, but it seems that the funds never go where they are supposed to!

@lofat - Ahh, first car memories are the best... My first car I bought on my own was a 1989 bmw 750il... I got a deal on ebay and drove 27 hours round trip without stopping to pick it up from Illinois... It had a 5.0 liter v12 in it and got about 9 miles to the gallon around town, but it would pass a motorcycle, 650cc or less, like it was standing still on the freeway... The thing would do 155mph, but I ended up totaling it going 30mph on a freeway on-ramp. I rear-ended an 86 year old farmer in a pickup truck when he slammed on the brakes for fear of merging with freeway traffic. Here's a pic, not mine, I had the basket weave wheels this has the dish wheels. But a good example, same color and all... I know, it's a bit of an old fart car, but it was a hoot to drive...

@troutstroker - you need to go to dukesfest! http://www.dukesfest.com/

It was really depressing to see how "gracefully" daisy duke aged.
  9.  # 50
Yeah I knew of the DukeFest, but didn't know of the site though. The show was a lot better in the early years when they shot on location in Georgia. Before they went Hollywood. I guess for Dukefest this year I'll just sit here and play with my Dukes of Hazzard electric slot racing set. ;~)

@Roderick - Our local news (www.myfoxdfw.com) just aired a story detailing the theft of $19,000 worth of gas from an automated gas station here in north Texas. Apparently 3 tanker trunks pulled up about 11:00pm and hooked up to the big filler ports in the ground and siphoned 6,000 gallons out of the stations tanks... No one saw it because it was in a primarily industrial district and was (as said earlier) an automated station with no attendant. Pretty sick huh...

My best American car was a 68 Chevy Camaro with a 327 v8. Just a stock car, no mods. It was actually pretty good on gas - for a v8 - about 15 city, 19 highway. Ah the memories.
