Hello all. Having seen the wonderful photos that you share of your respective collections, I thought I would share a photo of some of my favorite snuff boxes. The one I am currently using is the oval Welsh brass box on the right. But the trained eye will recognize a Veuve Perrin and a Francis Higgins or two as well :o)
Wel - Great collection....is that a can of Samuel Gawith - Coconut I see? If so, how is it? And what is the tin that has the soccer ball pattern on it?
Hello Poo-Diddy, This snuff it not "Coconut" but "Cuckoo" (SG) ;) A "snuffbox-ball" was painted Gawiths snuffbox, specially for "game with snuffbox". You can watch movies about this game on site http://www.otabace.pl/index.php?go=zwyczaje&b=4. You should click "Zobacz filmik" to see it.
@ The Long, When I first got it I was in love with it, but the more I used it, the more it began to taste very floral to me. So I have given it a bit of a rest for some time now. I've been thinking about re-opening it up and giving it a try again.
@ TheLong, I agree that it does have a very floral scent to it. Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy from time to time. There is another little tangy bite to it that reminds me of the scent when you break the stem on the dandelions white puffball. And if taken in large amounts through the whole day tends to leave an irritation in the back of my nose even after you blow it out. But again I do enjoy it as long as I don't use it all day.
@Poo-diddy - I LOVE the way you have electrical tape over all of the lid seams on ALL of you cans and smash boxes! You truly love and care for your snuff collection!
That's a decent sized collection you've got going! I think mine is nearly the same in size. And my list of snuffs to purchase keeps growing. I'll have to do an update photo one of these days. It almost seems pointless to do one now, though.
As far as my take on the Hopfen Schnupf, I think the 'floral' tones to it come from the tobacco base. I have noticed it in pretty much all of McChrystal's offerings I've tried so far. It's almost sweet in a way. If you try their Smoker's Blend, you can pick up on it even more. It's the only scent that seems present in this snuff. It's hard to tell if this is just their tobacco or if they actually add something to it. Either way, I find it quite pleasant.
Well hops themselves have a flowery/herb tone to them and thats what I associate it with. When I smell raw hops, I get a scent kind of like a mix of sage, thyme, ivy, thistle & lavender.
