I haven't made my own snuff yet, but, I did flavor some Tube Rose with vanilla beans and cinnamon. Bought a cheap little mortar & pestal set, which got me to wondering about grinding up tea leaves and adding to snuff.
Wonder if you would absorb the caffeine?

    Hmm...

May not be to bad. Maybe with some pungent Darjeeling. But I don't think the amount of caffeine you would get from this would even be noticed unless you were mixing snuff into the tea and not the other way around. I've used ground up dried mint leaves and dried honeysuckle and that worked. Kitchen herbs and spices work great especially Allspice.

I have a particular tea in mind, "Good Earth" Original. A sweet & spicy blend of tea and herbs includes; Rose Hips, Chammomile, Cinnamon, Lemongrass, Peppermint, Papaya leaf, Anise, Orange peel, and Ginger. A really delicious tea, both sweet and spicy, I higly recommend it.

Using plain powdered tea as nasal snuff has been reported in the Yunnan region in China. Ilex species containing caffiene have also been found in context with snuff kits at burial sites in South America. So nasal absorbtion of caffiene definitely seems possible. Grinding green tea with tobacco seems to produce an exhilirating effect that that can't be attributed to the tobacco alone. Since the snuff loses this property after a few hours, its probably due to the essential oils in the tea which volatize rapidly. You'll get a better result by grinding the tea and tobacco together even if you're using commercial snuff. BTW Darjeeling is way too delicate to add to tobacco.

Yes tea is not only exceptable but I encourage you to use some, Grean tea is the best to use. I do enjoy using flavored teas that have already been cured with aromas.

Tea being a Stimulant, astringent. It influences the nervous system, generally evinced by a feeling of comfort and exhilaration; it also causes unnatural wakefulness when taken in quantity. Taken moderately by healthy individuals it is harmless, but in excessive quantities it will produce unpleasant nervous and dyspeptic symptoms, the green variety being decidedly the more injurious. Tea is rarely used as a medicine, but, the infusion is useful to relieve neuralgic headaches.

In 1989 L. J. Davis patented what he describes as a substitute for oral smokeless tobacco made by applying a binding agent that includes flour to tea like peppermint leaf herbal tea fragments. In Germany 1998 another patented what is describes as a substitute for tobacco snuff that is inhaled through the nose. The snuff can be made from tea and other stimulating substances.

I use a mortar and pestle set I got on amazon.com for $11 dollars and came with a set of three; 2.5", 3.5" and 4.5" diameter mortars with three coordinating pestles.

    HAPPY BLENDING

There are a lot of pure herbal nasal snuffs out there that make claims of curing ailments. Like the all famous Ziggs Herbal Brain Snuff that Smarvy brought up a few months ago on a discussion and is found here http://www.brainsnuff.com/ as well as on ebay. This one claims to cure a lot of things such as A.D.D, depression, brain fog, social anxiety. By the way have any of you dared to try this yet?

    Others:

This site has a lot of herbal ones like this bloodroot, and also snuff rings if you want one.

I just got finished blending some peppermint tea into snuff... AMAZING. When you open the tin the aroma fills the room, Its like you ground a candy cane and made it into snuff. The peppermint flavor is intensely sweet and lingers long, the menthol adds a cool breeze that really gets lost in the peppermint. Guest's just entered my house and they said "this place smells like candy". I gave all a try without telling what it was and the response was an all around amazing. My brother said passionately "its just wonderful".

I used Celestial Seasonings Peppermint Tea, and McChrystals JIP.

2 Part Peppermint Tea (4 bags or just under half a coffee scoop)
1 Part McChrystals Jip (just under a fourth of a coffee scoop)

Use your own measurements depending on how much of the final product you intend to prepare.

The menthol in the Jip compliments the peppermint very well, without overpowering it. THIS IS SOME AMAZING SNUFF!!!

Wilsons Wilsons, nice nice. Maybe a little Allspice would fit in there to give it a nice spice note.

I don't have any Allspice on hand, but will try and get some.

However your suggestion brought to mind what else but Bespoke Christmas Joy, what with the aromatic spices, such as cinnamon, cloves, and a hint of nutmeg very close to Allspice maybe lacking some of the pepper... and this has done something indescribably beautiful to my senses. I am going to put some of this away for the Christmas season.

    Thanks for the suggestion TS!

I tell you what, Christmas Joy is amazing while your sipping on some hot mulled cider during the holidays. Mulling spice is another you can use in snuff.

    TS you are right.

Roderick, spiced sour apple cider would be a great flavor. I offer it up to you as an idea for your next blend.

So the final product at this moment is:

    2 Part Peppermint Tea
    1 Part McChrystals Jip
    1 Part Wilsons Gold Lable
    2 Part Bespoke Christmas Joy

    Equals one amazing blend.

Well Roderick, you would be more than welcome. If you could handle an easy going time relaxing in the mountains! Some have said to me that it is to quiet here, not enough noise for them.

I had my shotgun, my fishing rod, my favorite whisky and my wife’s frying pan all packed and ready to go, but my wife won’t let me. She mumbled some thing about being CEO of a snuff company and growing up. It does sound idyllic though.

Black Cherry Cream, I finished a wonderful black cherry snuff with a strong fresh tobacco flavor that offers a hint of cream, with a delicious cherry aroma that is long lasting and most soothing, followed by a hint of menthol that lingers.

2 Part McLintock Black Cherry pipe tobacco
    1 Part Black cherry Tea
    1 Part Ozona Cherry

and I am considering adding some Jip... but we shall see in time.

My tip for fine ground homemade snuff. I am fond of very fine ground snuff, I found that if I blend in my coffee grinder and then only use the fine powder that collects in the top of the lid and in the grinder, dumping back the tobacco or tea into there respective stashs to use for later grinding or dump into a mortar pestle to finish into fine powder.

Hey Dapalma, since you seem to be so knowledgeable about blending your own snuff, I was just wondering if you have ever tried putting fine ground coffee into a blend of snuff...what do you think?
    thank you : )

Try a 1/4 tsp. Turkish grind coffee to 1tbs. plain tobacco snuff. Or just crack a few beans and put them in your snuffbox. Dark roast would probably work best. Remember you're going to have a coffee/tobacco snuff, not just coffee scented.

alright thanks I'll try that snuffgrinder, but what kind of snuff would that work well with...something like McCrystals Original?
  14.  # 26
HDT, American snuff, & the English SP types would do for a start. This is all about personal taste and experimentation; so follow your nose. You can always work up a few test pinches first to avoid wasting snuff.

I just ground up some Rishi Earl Green (green tea flavored with bergamot oil) and added in a bit of Ozona Cherry and the result is quite pleasant. The tea on its own is not bad, either.

EDIT: I may have spoke too soon. After a while, the tea snuff has stuffed me up, and given me a bit of a headache. Oh well. Smells good, though.
