I was in WalMart today looking for something to put my bulk snuff in and I came across these great 10oz glass jars in the canister aisle. they appear to be quite airtight and they look better than most containers I have found, simple glass jars with a flexible plastic ring around the lid that forces the air out as you push it down. they were only 1.97, too

I just found these Quattro Stagioni jars at The Container Store today. I got 6 of the 8.5 oz and 6 of the 17 ounce, and transferred my Kardinal and Virginie out of the baby food jars into the new ones. There was something weird about the baby food jars; I literally needed a set of vice grips to get them opened for some reason. These jars are cooler than Mason Jars (which can be hard to find) and are very thick, with high quality screw on lids that are replacabble and an airtight seal. I also got 2 more 4L latch lid, hermitically sealable jars for storing tins, athough I would like to get out of tins and into bulk.

After looking all over Hell for just the right jars, The Container Store seems to have the best selection of storage devices at the best prices, and the women who work there are invariably attractive and usually old enough to not make me feel like a pervert for noticing.

@LHB, I had the same problem with Purity jars. They seal very well. No, they seal to well. Can't get them open once it's been sitting for a couple of days. I buy in bulk now and use empty coffee jars for storage.

i use the same jars for short term storage of pipe tobacco. they're not totally air tight and after about 3 months there's been enough moisture exchange that the tobacco is noticeably drier. i'm not sure how much this matters for snuff.

I left my Bernard's bagged. Putting the bags in jars. Well they're more like crocks. I threw a widget in outside the bag to keep the humidity up. I would like to find a nice square container so that I can drop the boxes in undisturbed. Same for the Schmalzler bags. I'm looking forward to finding a 100 gram container for that Straubinger. We'll see what happens when the bags start getting low. I do have a special cloisonne box for the Kardinal but it only holds six or seven pinches.

I hate to say it, but you really have to use screw top jars if you want the seal to be airtight. I've heard that a banana peel kept in a tightly sealed mason jar will never turn black. I'm about to conduct the experiment.

Bail jars (the kind with the rubber seals and wire clasps) will keep tobacco indefinitely. I use them for pipe tobacco.

PP, so did we. We also smoked black tea and horse dung.

I don't know guys. the lids on these are very very tight and the plastic o-rings makes a pretty good seal.

They seal very well. I've had some Schmalzler in one for about a year.
