Bear with me here because I'm not much of a reviewer but I noticed a lack of my favorite American Dry Snuffs on the forum, so thought I'd chime in with a few of my own over the next few days.
First up is Swisher/Helme TOPS SWEET SNUFF
Color: Darker Tan (a bit darker than the majority of American snuffs) Texture: Very Fine Moisture: Very Dry Tin Aroma: Sweet, Tobacco, lightly fragrant with a familiar aroma I can't place right away
Made by Swisher, the tin's color scheme is nice and the graphics simple. It's labeled plainly "TOPS SWEET SNUFF" . The snuff is the typical American style snuff that people either love or hate but this is quite different from most because it's noticeably scented. Upon using it, the nicotine content for me is not as high as most, either. The flavor and aroma is a distinct semi-sweet chocolate taste, which really surprised me the first time since I was used to the more "natural" American snuffs. It's different and not something I would want for an all day snuff but this tin will stay in the cabinet and be used as a nice change of pace from my more natural snuffs. I'll go out on a limb and say this or Swisher's Honey Bee would be the perfect starter snuff for the American who goes down to the local drug store to try his first tin.
You did a good job describing Tops. It is a little different than the more popular brands that people are familiar with. But being different isn't bad in this case. It is a great snuff. About 4 years ago while visiting my father in Missouri, I bought a case of it because the store there had a deal I couldn't pass up. 12 cans for $15. While I had the supply, this was an every day snuff. But after going through 12 straight cans, I got a little burnt out on it. Its probably time to get some more. And yes Tops or Honey Bee would be a great starter for American snuff. I would also throw in Tube Rose.
Thanks for the review, I am guilty of not par-taking in the American blends that much and it is a nice reminder to see a review of one to bring me around to sample /use these blends as well.
I am with Mo, I am also guilty of not partaking... I plan to remedy this fact. Because of some of the reviews I have found a new curiosity to try these again. Over years I have come back to this and that brand that I previously did not like and find them quite enjoyable. Keep the reviews coming.
