I've tried grind a few G&H pipe tobaccos, even I tried with a very good American pipe tobacco named McClellands Virginia Flake, and all the experiments goes bad. Pipe tobacco have a long time of fermentation and I think this is the reason for not be ok for snuff.

Macalpe when you say they go wrong how do you mean? Do you prefer roll you own cigarette tobacco? I have enjoyed success with both however I much prefer pipe tobacco. I will be adding some G&H to my order in the future, so far I have been most happy with MacBaren pipe tobacco's. I recently aquired some McLintock Black Cherry that I am very pleased with.

Black Cherry Cream, I finished a wonderful black cherry snuff with a strong fresh tobacco flavor that offers a hint of cream, with a delicious cherry aroma that is long lasting and most soothing, followed by a hint of menthol that lingers.

2 Part McLintock Black Cherry pipe tobacco
    1 Part Black cherry Tea
    1 Part Ozona Cherry

and I am considering adding some Jip... but we shall see in time. I right now I am in love with the flavor, I want to age it awhile and maybe make a small batch with a slight mingling of Jip.

My tip for fine ground homemade snuff. I am fond of very fine ground snuff, I found that if I blend in my coffee grinder and then only use the fine powder that collects in the top of the lid and in the grinder, dumping back the tobacco or tea into there respective stashs to use for later grinding or dump into a mortar pestle to finish into fine powder.

    macalpe,

I've thought about using some McClelland pipe tobaccos too but passed on the idea. Their Virginias normally come very wet with an odd "ketchup" aroma that many people find disagreeable. I've noticed that the aroma persists no matter how dry the tobacco gets, and I'm one of the types that don't care for it much. That, and their tobacco usually takes quite a long time to dry. I've had the best luck so far with Cornell and Diehl (they come very dry) and Rattray's Virginias.

Daplama, FWIW, Mac Baren's Virginia #1 has been my staple pipe tobacco for the last 10 years or so. I'm addicted to it. LOL.

MMM ketchup, that is just what I am NOT looking for in a snuff... I believe I will not be trying McClelland anytime soon.

Omegapd, Yes MacBaren Virginia #1 is an excellent choice. I am most pleased with all my MacBaren so far.

I have taken quite a liking to many pipe tobaccos for snuff, like Fribourg & Treyer, MacBaren, Peterson, Davidoff, and will be trying out some Gawith Hoggarth, and possibly some Cornell & Diehl which I am hearing good things about.

Well I think I'm set with Gin & Tonic for now. I made a great score on 4 original Gin & Tonics. They were still sealed and taste as fresh as the day it was made.

Nick D who used to operate the Bespoke Tobacco site, has agreed to supply Snuff Store with his Kendal based hand-blended Gin And Tonic snuff.

No longer in those fancy 'kendal' boxes, but for those of you who've been waiting to try it, it's once again available.

It is available in 10g 'sealable' bags. Priced £1.99.

Bespoke Gin And Tonic snuff is now listed on Snuff Store.

That's great news, Tim. I've been hoping to get hold of the Gin & Tonic for a while.

With this and the recent Fribourg & Treyer additions, the snuffstore is fast becoming the one-stop snuff shop!

I have been waiting for Mars to get this in. I have tried the Stephans Tipple - which has not really grown on me quite yet.

    Hi All,

Gin & Tonic is now listed on site.

The other Bespoke blends that will eventually be stocked are Stephan's Tipple and Christmas Joy.

Yeah Jim, had a good week with getting supplies in. Getting the Wilsons account has meant I've been able to reduce the price and also enabled me to stock the various Fribourg & Treyler's blends. I also managed to get hold of a good supply of Hedges and J & H Wilsons the other week.

    Cheers

Trout...you mentioned that you don't like to add anything fancy to a whiskey, but if you like Maker's mark and other good bourbon's, like myself, are you saying you don't like a good Manhattan? Mostly good 3 1/2 parts Bourbon (I'll only use Maker's Mark) , 1 part Sweet Vermouth, a couple drops of angustura orange bitters, and a cherry served in a cold glass? That is my favorite drink. Just alcohol mixed with more alchohol but it is really smooth and tasty...I think everything just enhances the great bourbon flavor.

Hmmm... in my book the only thing to add to a good whisky (or whiskey) is more good whisk(e)y!
  4.  # 44
I'm with you on that one Bryan although I slightly prefer Woodford Reserve and a bit more Angostura in my Manhattans !

Well Bryan, what I said was I don't like to add anything fancy to a 'good' whisky. I enjoy a good bourbon for what it is and 'generally' drink it straight but not always. If I'm going to make a mixed drink with bourbon, I'll use something like Old Grand Dad or Jim. But I'm not the biggest manhattan fan. I do enjoy a Makers Mark Mint Julep and easy for me because I have an herb garden full of fresh spearmint & I prefer a Whisky Sour over a Manhattan even an Old Fashioned. There's nothing wrong with it if you like to mix the good whiskies, enjoying them straight is just my preference.

Bryan, here is one good recipe with Makers Mark for a summer time treat:

    Makers Mark Ice Cream Pie;
    4 cups vanilla ice cream
    3-4 Tbs Maker's Mark
    1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
    1/2 package of toffee bits
    Graham cracker crust

Wow Mr Troutstroker, that recipe sounds good ! For us Limeys, Graham Cracker = Digestive Biscuit.

I do really like an Old Fashioned and a Mint Julep too. The mint in my back garden is threatening to take over, so any excuse to keep it trimmed will do nicely :o)

Here's a recipe for a long drink I've been enjoying recently (wouldn't use the expensive bourbon in it though obviously).
    50ml Bourbon
    50ml Sour Apple Liqueur
    Juice of half a lime
Pour into a Collins glass filled with ice, stir, top up with ginger ale.

I finally got myself some G&T. It's good, but complex...I don't think I'd take it all day like I do with SP and plain snuffs, but I definitely like it a LOT. It's a very nice texture, and gives a good tingle to my nose, too. Something to take and sit back quietly and think about. For all day, I prefer stuff that's not very complex and that I can take a very large pinch of. Very good snuff- G&T!
