OK folks, maybe you can help me out here. A friend is going up to near Kendal (as in the place in the Lake District, England) and I feel obliged to take advantage of the fact.

Now, I am quite well-stocked with snuffs in general, but haven't yet tried Samuel Gawith or Gawith Hoggarth snuffs.

So the question is, if I'm going to pick up just one snuff from each manufacturer, which should it be?

    Thanks

    Adam

P.S. To save confusion (picking up from another thread) Gawith Hoggarth is known as Kendal snuff, and clearly labelled as such. Samuel Gawith is not known by any other name, although it, too, comes from Kendal!

Well I enjoy the Gawith Hoggarth Whiskey and the Samual Gawith Chocolate is nice.

    Hello!
    If I were You... ;)
Samuel Gawith - Chocolate or Black Coffee
Kndal (GH) - English Rose or Sandalwood

    Thank you chaps.

The Sam Gawith Chocolate is looking like a front-runner. Is it a dark chocolate taste? That would make all the difference from my angle. Dark chocolate can be quite close to coffee in taste.

I love whiskey normally, but haven't yet had a whiskey snuff, so that definitely raises my interest. I also know how well whiskey works in pipe tobacco (distant memories of Borkum Riff!)

Is Kendal (GH) English Rose not the one that's kept at the entrance of the House of Commons?

    Cheers, keep em coming

    Thanks, Troutstroker.

Yep, SG Chocolate looks like a dead cert, alright!

Is the London Brown (mentioned in the same thread) a good way of sampling SG's base tobacco?

And as SG is the home of Kendal Brown....

I'm clearly going to have to put in a significant SG order some time soonish, but I really can't justify it while I have several Wilson's Sharrow tins to get through. Patience, patience.

What's wrong with having a different snuff for every day of the year???????????????????????????? ;~) Snuff is cheap enough and sampling is the only way to find your new favorite!!!

Actually I love having a good variety of snuffs around, as I reckon do many people here...
365 may just be overdoing it a bit, though!

Let's see, I have I think 14 Sharrow, 4 F&T, 4 McChrystal, 2 Toque = 24 on the go at the moment, essentially hovering around 4 or so regulars with occasional forays into the rest. Heaven.

The only issues are (a) Space and (b) Freshness. Neither is insurmountable, but my wife may take exception to me setting up a large vacuum storage box in the kitchen, and there's no way I'm putting them all somewhere inaccessible like in the attic!

Don't want to sound boring but try their version of HDT. Two that I've had in the past - Dry Orange and the other (I believe was called) Sandalwood. Both smelling like a French brothel and good.

The Sam Gawith Irish D Light is a great snuff. I really like a lot of the Sam Gawith snuffs but a lot of the GH snuffs seem to have a floral perfume twang to them that kind of penetrates into the mouth and on the tongue.
