Thoughts on Old Paris? Curious, does this have more nicotine than McChrystal's O&G? How could I find this out?

I couldn't tell you which snuffs have more nicotine than others. They all seem to be the same to me in that matter. Others can tell a difference, but I never have been able to. I can tell you that Old Paris is an excellent snuff. It is very moist, and pretty coarse, so it is easy to use without hacking up a lung. Reminds me of bourbon with a hint of a floral scent added. Definitely a perennial favorite of mine. I haven't had a pinch of it in a while, I think I'll dig it out.

Old Paris is a fantastic snuff - recommended by Beau Brummell himself, apparently. The nicotine hit is good, but not overstrong.
It has a very unique, earthy flavour - i personally don't detect a floral note. It is flavoured with fermented dates - Arrack - but I definitely get leather and dirt as well, which sounds bad but really isn't! I'd urge you to get a tube and sample it for yourself.

I can take or leave it, it is ok occasionally but I have never thought it to be that special...kind of bland in a way. It makes a nice mix with equal parts High Dry Toast though.

Just got some today and can't say that I'm impressed so far. This guy on Youtube made over it like it was the only snuff to get, but I strongly disagree. Perhaps some flavor will develop now that I've opened the tin.

acid_poet, transfer some of it to a snuff box and leave it open over night. If you still don't like it, send it to me!

I guess it´s one of those that don´t reveal their beauty too easily. I´m on it for 10 days now and still don´t get it totally. But I guess it can be all the more rewarding, if the nose adjusts to it.

I really like this one. Nothing else is quite like it. Not outlandish, like some of their more perfumed varieties, but refined with a healthy burn and a vinous, fruity leathery tobacco character. I must confess that I only visit it occasionally, but when I do I always binge on it.

This is one of my favorites. Not an all day snuff but a nice one to finish the day with. It is deep and rich. To me the flavor stands somewhere between Santo Domingo and F&T's Kendal Brown. Almost like you could mix equal parts of each and get Old Paris. I would also class it in the same family as say Bernard's KLOSTERMISCHUNG SCHMALZLER though Old Paris is not as heavy in grind nor quite as dark (rich) in flavor- this is not to say OP’s flavor is not full but only that it is not quite as dark as the Bernard's.

Anyway, it is well worth a try IMO.

I received a sample of Old Paris from Nicotinerush and am going to try it as soon as I get the nerve. It is dark in colour and fairly course ground. What gives me pause is the odour in the tin. The fact that most of you guys like it means it must be different in the nose because to me it smell like cow dung in the tin.

Nachman, cows must be real different where you live. I wonder if your sample is mislabeled

It wasn't labeled at all, but I thought I saw somewhere that was what it was. Maybe not.

I'm not big on perfumed snuffs, I have determined. I have four or five F&T perfumed snuffs in 25g tins, and I snuff them on occasion, and then remember why I dislike them. I'll put them up for trade sooner or later. I'd love to trade them for some traditional Dholakias.

zonesix I am not a big fan of anybody's perfumed snuff. To me F&T's Kendal Brown smells like bridge night at my Grandmother's house. 25 old ladies wearing Tea Rose hand lotion and geranium perfume. I don't think of Old Paris as a perfume blend at all. It is far too dark and rich for that. When I said that it was like they took Kendal and Santo and mixed them I meant that Old Paris has a sweetness like Kendal (without the bridge club) and a darker base like Santo. Really it's a lighter version of Bernard's.

Not gonna disagree with your analysis. To my nose it's perfumy (is that a word?) compared to the snuffs I enjoy on a daily basis. Though if someone would make a toasted dirt-scented snuff it would probably replace everything else in my collection.

@ Nachman: from your description, maybe you got a sample of NTSU there?

I think OP is a fantastic snuff. It was one of my very first favourites when I started snuffing, and I was quite happily using it all day, sometimes on it's own or in a mixture with F&T HDT. Haven't revisited it in a little while; when I get home I'll have to have a toot.

This is a good snuff. Real good. I didn't like it at first but after about a month I went back to it and loved it. Recently I've been mixing it w/ WE Garrett 3:2 (OP to WE) which makes both flavors last a wicked long time in my nose...not to mention the nic hit. Wahooooooo!

When I toot this I get giddy. I want to strap on my Wellington boots and hunt down Mr. Hyde. Smells like I just finished riding my horse through a dank library into the arms of a dark haired temptress who then proceeds to feed me dates in the bowels of said library.

Dark and mysterious. Smells initially like Copenhagen dip upon unsealing the only tin in the industry with a rubber gasket. Yummy - I can't wait to put this in my nose! I loved Kodiak Ice in my dipping days, but the odd tin of Copenhagen Long Cut really hit the spot. Plus, this looked like a course grind almost like regular Copenhagen. The similarities really end at the initial whiff. Once in the nose, Old Paris displays so many subtleties which are lacking in Copenhagen that it is almost laughable I thought there was a comparison to begin with. Some have remarked that this is a "floral" snuff. I would disagree and tend toward the analysis of old leather, rich mahogany, and possibly dates (although this has not fully developed to me yet). I like this offering from Fribourg & Treyer. Check it out.

Old Paris is one of my absolute favorites, but to me it has no resemblance to American Dip. Definitely the scent of something ancient, earthy and ponderous. I've never had anything like it, and don't want to be without it. Great snuff to take while reading an early edition of Thomas Aquinas's "Summa Theologica." Celestial, yet rooted deep in nature.

Old Paris is definitely a Treat!

I've decided that Old Paris is not one of my favourite F&T snuffs, although I still rate it quite highly. The more perfumed examples seem to be my favourites at the moment, such as JR Justice, Bordeaux, Morlaix, Seville, Kendal Brown and Macouba.

I quite prefer the more earthy F&T scents, with Santo Domingo at the top, followed by Old Paris and Princes in a tie, and then narrowly followed by Princes Special. All of them are classic, but I think the Old Paris is the most unique of all of them; it smells like an ancient library in an even more ancient house, and is very subtle, dusty, and mysterious. The others are much bigger and more pungent. If the Santo Domingo was still made with Cuban tobacco, I'd buy a couple of pounds of it. If you don't like your Old Paris, we can probably work out a trade for one of my perfumed F&T's.

Old Paris was the first snuff I tried, and what an introduction to the world of snuffing that was! It's probably my 3rd favourite atm.

LHB, Just got my order today from Tom at Nicotine Rush. Tried it, and unfortunately.... I dont think you'll be recieving it on a trade! I love it. I know what you mean about it smelling like an old library. Wilson's #22 was my favorite, But i think F&T's Old Paris has just taken its place... havent had the pleasure of trying Santo Domingo yet, but Im sure as i expand my collection of snuff's it will be on the next order.

Old Paris and Santo Domingo are very different, but they share the same characteristic of being about ancient, ponderous things. For me, with Old Paris it's the indoors, with Santo Domingo it's the earth, and outdoors. I would have loved to have tried these snuffs back in the day when they were supposedly even more characterful, but as it stands, they provide a sensation which--for me--is unmatched by any tobacco product. I'm glad to see Old Paris is finding such a favorable reception among people who are relatively new to snuff, since it doesn't have anything to do with trendy foods, drinks or promiscuous 20something girls. Not that I have anything against food, drink or promiscuous 20something girls: nothing could be further from the truth. I'm just sayin'...
