Does anyone know if the Poschl's Kloster Andechs Spezial is available from any supplier here in the states. Also I am looking forward to trying the Alpina blend,if that is available too.
In short, no. Poschl makes about a gazillion (it's true, I looked it up) flavors that are not available through US distributors. I asked Mike at Mars Cigars about it and he told me that he has bugged Poschl about it before and they have told him they aren't interested in selling their other snuffs here in the US, apart from the ten or so that are already available. However, if you really, really want to try those other Poschl's, you have an option apart from a flight to Germany; Rajek.de is a German tobacconist that sells a plethora of snuffs. The drawback to Rajek's is their legendary shipping charges. They do have a great selection of snuff stuff, including the Poschl Automatikbox and hankies with the Bavarian crest printed on them. I bit the bullet about ten days ago and payed the shipping charges, which amounted to 32 EUR (about $40), but my order was unusally large, so if you try and stay small, they charges should be closer to 16 EUR. In correspondence with Rajek's, they told me that if you ask, they can usually lower the shipping charge even further by removing free goodies to keep the total weight under a kilo. Their shopping cart gives you a running total of the weight of your order so this will help you with making your 1000g selection. Hope this helps, even though I know it's not really what you wanted to hear.
Then you are one lucky dude, Mo. Rajek's is in Lennestadt, in North-Western Germany, if your family is located near there. I can't wait to visit in person.
Justin: Unless I'm mistaken, the metric form of gazillion (we're talking Europe, after all) would be 3.27 hectagazebos. I hope that makes everything easier for everyone. No, no, don't thank me, just doing my part.
I'm pretty sure I saw that on the Poeschl website: "We 3.27 hectagazebos of snuffs for pleasure of the yours manufacture! Be certain to them all try!" (Like Rajek's, their English has a less than perfect respect for grammatical structure.) You can look it up, of course, for yourself.
hmm, what's that s'pose to mean? O.k., I admit, I do sometimes use the assistance of google or some other "fuzzy" online translators. The results mostly are rather funny than useful and no translation can be used without "re-assembling", but they sometimes at least do help a bit if your short in time. We add about 40-60 new products to our site each week and currently have more than 11,700 available online, so I apologize if sometimes (like anywhere between 10 P.M. and 5 A.M.) I'm either to tired or just not in the mood or willing to read some descriptions and translations over and over again for any grammar, spelling, restructuring and rebuildung sentences. %-/ Some people here helping me simply are not able, due to a simple lack of English knowledge.
O.k. I'm no native, my English is far from perfect and I lost quite bunch of it since I lived in the US (I'm back to Germany in 1979), but be assured, that it's not a lack of respect for grammar in any kind.
Ever tried to translate a German description at 4 A.M. in the morning and after having a 22 hour business day? Give it a try and then put it aside and read through it 2 days later. Guess you'd be surprised. ;-)
Oh, and if you ever stumble over anything like the mentioned Pöschl sentence above on our site - gimme a hint.
I too think that Andy was just trying to be funny. My wife is a German- English translator so I get to see first hand some of the difficulties that are invlolved in matching sentence structures with content and meaning. Oh yea,to make it even more difficult, she is a translator for the court system as well. Try to make sense of that legal mumbo-jumbo in your own language and then try to translate it to another.......what a headache!
I know we treat you pretty sorely sometimes here, but do be assured that it is all in jest, and no harm is meant by any of it. I know everyone here appreciates the fantastic web-store you have and maintain so well, and I;m sure we all have some appreciation for how much work must go into it. Part of the fun of this forum is the multi-cultural nature of it's participants, and I enjoy making these new friends from around the globe. A large part of making new friends (at least for me) is making wise-cracks, and sometimes these might not translate perfectly through language barriers, and internet barriers. I apologize if I've slighted you in any way, it has never been my intention to hurt your feelings, and I'm sure Andy feels the same. Anyhow, please keep up the hard work, I certainly appreciate it!
no no, don't worry. Nobody hurt my feelings in any way. I'm quite sure I usually get the intentions right. I was just surprised about the comment, as I, taking it serious, wasn't aware of having such a "bad grammar" on any of our translations. They're sometimes not perfect (I know), but should at least have some sence in theirselves. If anyone finds some serious bugs somewhere, just let me know - it's in our interest and nobody is hurt because. ;-)
In my experience the translations on your website have no trouble communicating their meaning. The grammar can be awkward in a few places, but it doesn't impair one's ability to understand the text in any way. I wouldn't worry about it too much if I were you, I'm sure you have plenty of more important things to worry about.
I'm glad that no feelings were hurt in any miscommunication, it has been on my mind. I hope you are enjoying your warm weather!
Though it's been over 20 million seconds* since I was here posting regularly, I must now respond with belated alacrity:
Mr. Rajek, no offense was intended. I was being foolish for the sake of humor. There is a little clumsiness in the English on your site, but nothing so egregious as my exaggeration. Please excuse my silliness at your expense!
Thanks,
Andy
*I did the math. It really is over 20 million seconds. Hard to think about that. I think my head's gonna 'splode now.
Guys, i know i'm new here, as i just found the site...But i'm stationed at Grafenwohr (in Bavaria) germany. I'm actually breaking out my box of Poschl's Menthol with Columbia oil now.. Hmm. i can scout around for other flavors of poschls i suppose...
i got a month old tin my friend just picked up for me in germany. i took the sticker off the front to put on my snuff humidor, but other then that i only took two pinches and it was not bad at all, but just not for me. so if anyone wants to buy it and pay actual cost shipping i will happily sell it. i have a alot of other snuffs too and if some one was interested i could make a list, so maybe buying more stuff would make the shipping cost easier. too if i ship it will be actual cost US mail. figured i would throw it out there. i have bayren-prise, lowen prise, aniseed extra from sharrow, some president and a few others in that same taste range. i have picked up alot of different snuffs too try in the last two months 60 or so i believe so i have a ton of different ones that i would measure out and sell what ever u wanted to try for slightly less then it cost me. let's me's know's, as my son would say, lol.
or trade for my norms, MCOG or other MC's other then SP, F&T's bordeaux, morlaix, kendal brown, or seville. i would also like to try sam gawiths of any type if i could find someone who had any in usable condition, which is hard too too do here in the US. i am also looking for 2 cherry sharrow snuff wooden snuff boxes in new or slightly used condition. figured i would just put it out there too others members. open too alot, just whisper ideas, or for email info. tim
