I got bored and mixed Toque vanilla with some St. Clements in my bullet. Surprisingly good! Its kinda like an orange dreamsicle with the orange + vanilla thing going on.
Yes, I get curious about what different varieties taste/smell/whatever like together, lol.
With me in the office at the moment I have F&T Macouba and Toque St Clements. Downstairs on the chair next to my armchair there boxes with Toque Toast & Marmalade, Wilson's Best SP, F&T J R Justice, F&T Princes Special, Sam Gawith's High Mill No 1, SG SP Scotch, Bernard's Brasil Feinst, O&G and also two boxes containing mixtures of all sorts!
And I'm not even going to think about what is on the shelf above my armchair!
a mix of everything but mainly dholakia aniseed menthol (I always leave a little of the last snuff in the bullet when it's not quit as easy to get out makes for some unique snuffing. I've had a bit of everything in it and all the scents still hold on a little but the newest is always the most prominent scent.
Let's see... I have a mini box with Manjul, another with Macouba/Jewel, two mediums, one with Toque Raspberry/other fruit Toque, and another with Toque Natural/Royal George, and a Wilsons box with a Thyme/Peppermint/Bergamot mix. I think that's all the wood I'm sporting. I do have a dozen or so plastic smash boxes. Some with mixes some with original flavors. A couple of those get dumped back and reused for portability. Cheers!
I've got a Toque St. Clements/Gapefruit melange in my bullet for work. Home made snuff from cuban cigar and Toque Chocolate melange in my German box. In my french snuff box, another home made snuff from Solani VA/PER.
Right now I have in my three onefortheroad boxes Helme's Wild Cherry, Dholakia's Sparrow Cool, and Toque's Whisky and Honey! Then in my antique box I have my aged Levi Garrett Scotch and Rappee!
Well, my mixture started when I received a "bad" batch of G&H Wild Mint. I say "bad" because the plastic container had a crack in it, the seal was broken, and it basically tasted like ass. (I since haven't purchased any G&H snuff but to be fair to the company I don't hold this to be an indicator of the quality of their product.) I had also recently acquired a nice rosewood Wilson's Of Sharrow snuff box, so in went the G&H Wild Mint along with half a tin each of Dean Swift Bezoar and Apricot and for good measure I topped off the lot with some old W.E. Garret Sweet Scotch and Wilson's Of Sharrow Cherry Menthol. Holy Crapola! The mix is quite lethal to all but the most seasoned of nostrils. Tho I'm immune to it myself by now, it fails to bring red eyes and immediate sneezing fits to anyone I dare offer the mix too. I carry some in my bullet for allergy days and the rest is slowly soaking up the spicy seasoning of my rosewood box for now. Not quite sure what to name this mix; was thinking possibly "Hair of the Dog"?
I carry 4 bullets with me everyday. One I rotate different menthol / fruit blends, One I rotate scotch types, another always has dessert type snuffs. The last bullet ALWAYS has Toque original in it. I don't leave the house without it!
I generally carry two boxes with me during the day. One always contains lowenprise and the other I vary from day to day. A lot of the time it's been Toque Absinthe but recently I've been into schmalzler snuff in a big way. If I'm feeling a bit brave I take some Rooster with me. This mixing snuffs is new to me, I'll give it a go i think.
When I do mixing I will put a little of 2 or 3 kinds on my hand and see if I think it is a promising combo. If I like it I will mix a little using 1 snuff spoon of each kind. Then I tweek it by adding more of which ever kind it seems to need. Not all the combos work but it is fun to try new things.
I'm still in the 'throes of the newbie' and some days use maybe 10 different snuffs or so, guesstimating. Favorites are W&H of course, rOOster, O&G, crumbs, taxi, Dholakias, IHT.... that's just whats sitting on my desk right now. I only have about 40 more in my new snuff curio (transformed old Small Batch Bourbon box). I may have developed a small problem. :P
Today: Toque Original, QWS Smoker's Blend, Irish High Toast 22 and Dhoklia Swiss Chocolate.... pockets were filled on the way out on the door this morning.
I have a shelf right by the door where my keys, wallet, change, phone, etc.. sit, this shares space with my snuff collection, so I just grab a random handfull of tins on my way out the door. Usually one of the big 25g toque tins and 1-3 smaller tins of a wide range of others to choose from, the only thing I may have to consciously grab are the American scotches in the big tubes.
Has anyone noticed if it helps to age your mix a bit in a particular wooden box? I have my 'mixture' snuff sitting in a rosewood box and I think I can detect a bit of extra flavor to it as a result. Or is it just my imagination? I also filled a plastic canister full of some old dried out 20 year old Scotch snuff. The canister held wintergreen oral dip originally so I'm waiting to see if any of the wintergreen gets imparted into the old snuff since its virtually impossible to get the oil out of the plastic can. It still smells like a dinner mint when I open it and I've soaked it and run it through the dishwasher. Should make for an interesting experiment I guess.
