I'm not sure if there's another discussion on this, but it stuck out and I thought I would share. I live in the middle of nowhere in North Dakota and while out at a bar the a few weeks back was introduced to snuff. A man there who was here farming on a visa from europe had several people in a circle with their hands in a fist with their pinky and thumbs extended with brown powder on the back of their hands. They, a few man and many women, would put thier extended fingers together in a circle, hollar breeze, and quickly sniff up the powder. It really was quite a happy ceremony and I was curious. When I asked him, he pulls out, what I found out later, was a large tin of McChrystal's snuff, very carefully taps out a few pea size amounts on my hand and I was in heaven, and yes, I had to hollar breeze. Even though most of it went down the back of my throat, I knew I wanted more. We'll 3 weeks later, I have several flavors of Toque, thanks to these forums, as well as a Wilsons sampler pack and a few others. I've just put in another order for more Toque, should have gotten menthol and peppermint the first time, as well as orders for some american snuffs and of course more McChrystals (5 large tins this time, lol). I'm just wondering if anyone has ever seen such ceremony for snuffing before? It was really quite entertaining, and not what you would ever expect to see in a small town bar in the middle of North Dakota. Truthfully, I was had a few that night, and thought maybe we were supposed to hollar freeze, as that's what it felt like in the nose. It was a really interesting night, not only from the snuffing, but from the comeraderie of doing it in such a way. I've gotten one person at work to try it so far, though without the loud Breeze...

I see now pictures of it on the McChrystals site, so we can't be that odd, can we?

That is awesome. As far as what I would expect to find in a small bar in North Dakota. Well anything really I've never been to one and I personaly find the smaller the bar the greater chance of strangeness happening.

Priiiiiiise! That explains it. I think he mentioned Switzerland, but honestly I had a few, and my have heard Sweden for all I remember. Well I'll make sure not to hollar Breeze! like a noob anymore, lol. :) There was also someone there from Ireland, and it was all I could do to not ask them questions all night, missing the diversity of my air force days. It was quite the icebreaker. Once you've snuffed with someone, it seems to make you instant friends.

Please Ladies and Gentlemen, remember be when ever you get together. I'm a loner on this side of the globe, I don't know even one snuffer in my area. But, I still enjoy snuffing, might just be more so if I did have maybe only one pal whom I could talk to in person.

Completely off-topic, but you reminded me of my experience in a bar in a small North Dakota town a few years back. It was a bit of a dive to say the least; a long, narrow, linoleum-floored place with plastic tables and chairs - the table at the rear was occupied by four guys playing poker. My girlfriend had that look on her face which said "Jeez, what has he taken me to this time ?"

We got there about 4pm and the stools at the bar were occupied by five blokes who were on the 19th hole after a game of golf. I ordered a couple of beers and we started chatting to them.

When I mentioned that we were from Scotland and on vacation, there was initial disbelief - I don't think they get a lot of tourists up there. After that and despite my best pleading, I couldn't buy another drink all night. We staggered back to the motel around 8pm a tad worse for wear and having spent 2 dollars on beer and a 10 buck tip for the barman.

Nice people in your neck of the woods !
