If I had to guess I'd say its because the level of overall courtesy has declined and the amount of conflict and controversy has increased on this forum. I've seen changes and I've only been here like 3 months. So i imagine the different is even more prominent for the users who have been here longer.
But maybe I'm just projecting my observations onto snuffster -
Shame to see you go Nigel hopefully you change your mind as all forums often go through these periods of conflict and discontent, it will pass...

I haven't noticed the bad behaviour here recently as I've been busy with work but if its going to drive long term members off site i'd say its a serious issue that needs attention from Alex. -

I have noticed a decline as well in the forum. well i do not really care either way, it has just caused me to post much less. Alas, the newbies will learn. Remember snuffster patience is a virtue, but the decline has really reached an apex of late, but i am sure it will rise back up. just as with most orginizations the new people need time to aclimate and adjust. so i say dont leave, just dont respond or read the posts that have u irked. post in the topics u want to. But this forum really was far more gently and scholary in the past. -
Has Alex been made aware of this? Maybe it's necessary to have a few members elevated to 'mod' status to police this sort of thing if its going to get out of hand...

Although I am still pretty new and probably have no right to say this I really would hate to see you go snuffster, Your wealth of knowledge has help me and my questions more times than i care to count.

I've been pondering what to post here. Just a few thoughts.
1. I hate to see anybody leave for these reasons.
2. Unfortunately we don't live in a Utopia.
3. ejacerooni hit the proverbial nail on the proverbial head. As the site grows and there are more of us it's just going to be different. It will ebb and flow. And things may get a little heated and sometimes people will be in a bad mood. It's bound to happen.
4. I'll leave it to the timeless words of the sage Rodney King "Can't We All Just Get Along"
And Know that you will be missed Snuffster.
P.S. I know when Grim first showed up something about him made me post something uncalled for and curt. After reading the next day. I thought to myself I am an Ass. So I whispered an apology. Don't know if it was taken or not as it was never brought up again. But i know I tried to make it better.

Dear All
I just logged on a final time and was very, very touched by your kind words. Now I feel like one of those 'cry for help' cases. I genuinely thought I would disapear quietly!
Believe me, after 20 years as a cop in central London I'm neither easily offended, upset or intimidated and we sure don't live in any Utopia (BigBlue, you have great taste in music, my all time favourite band as well and thanks for posting those lyrics) but my working life has probably made me a bit less tolerant of obnoxious fools, simply because I see a lot of them - so I get the point about ignoring them but don't really want a hobby where I have to.
I've thought for a long time that the site has to tighten up and that there should be some kind of code of conduct so people like Grim and our various shils and trolls can be dealt with straight away. I tried to get some interest in that but it seemed I was the only one who was that concerned. Various whispers to Alex have either been not seen or ignored; I believe Trout said he moved house or something but I can only assume he does not log on anymore. Let me emphasise I am not criticising anyone - we all live in the way we want to and put up with the things we are comfortable with; that's life.
This was a terrific site, and in mamy ways still is. But as a parting word to old friends let me say that unless you do get some kind of active moderation - and given that snuff and membership is growing - you are going to be putting up with more and more Grims without any way of getting shut of them. Some of you won't care, but some will.

maybe the owner can see who is mature enough and spends most time online and appoint them as mods simply to check posts and stop this kinda thing i have read many of your posts you are a great asset here you have taught me a lot without you even knowing all i can say is whats bad today is good tomorow take care of yourself what ever you decide !

Most forums can cause anxiety and aggravation. Especially when you are personally or emotionally invested in them. I have found this out the hard way. Therefore a certain amount of detachment is recommended. This is also the way of the world. You cannot get away and you will face your own personal struggles no matter where you turn. I think you are pretty honorable for a cop, I hope you don't mind me saying that. Principled people always have a tougher go in the world as less and less meets our expectations. I think the forum will continue to degenerate if good people flee so in the interests of keeping the forum how YOU would like it then please consider staying on and people will have to live up to your example rather than dragging the forum down to their level.
I was one of the people who agreed with your thread on shills, trolls, etc. Saying you were alone in that isn't quite correct. There were other supporters as well.
I understand people can get upset as there is lots wrong with the world these days. We must all treat each other respectfully. Anyone who can't must eventually go, not the people who behave as gentlemen.
Don't think we won't respect you if you change your mind. The hallmark of an honorable gent is not to be stubborn in the face of truth. I'll be amongst the first to welcome you back.

He is is not getting beat up. Rather being told that there are better ways to respond to people. instead of flaming and swearing, etc. @ the person who offended him; he could have said something along the lines of:
mr I do not know what high horse u rode in on, but ur opion was rude and not helpfull at all to the overall discussion or the point i r making. I think you are a pewp head and hope u stub ur toe.
that would have been far more polite and would have conveyed the point just as well. -

In grims defense, he was provoked, and fixinu2 edited his post which was pretty inappropriate. But he could have handled it better. -

Sometimes people get out of bed on the wrong side. As Ejacerooni said there are ways of dealing with being critcised and Grim reacted the wrong way then refused to say sorry for using abusive language. That was wrong.

fixin2 - I meant the content of your original post was inappropriate not the fact that you edited it. Although by editing your original post, people only saw grims reaction and not the post that provoked it. Thats why everyone has been coming down on grim and not the both of you.
