General: How do you keep it neat?

    I have some snuff bullets and they are the neatest things because they dump a nice little pile on the back of your hand without much mess, but sometimes they don't drop enough and you have to keep flipping them over and trying to get more snuff out of the bullet--can be a real pain....

    So, instead you get a snuff box or you take your snuff from the can... Now what I am finding is that I seem to spill it quite a bit and it gets on my pants and I have to brush it off, but it is messy and I don't want to get snuff all over my car or desk or clothing.

    How do you long time snuffers do it neatly? So far I have been quite messy....

    Try decanting a days worth of snuff into and old tin or snuff box.

    One can perhaps adjust the colors of one's dress-code with the color of one's snuff - risking entering into what helped killing off the use os snuff in the early-mid 19th century, namely foppishness :) One could wear black and pinch Princes, and wear brown tweed, pinching SP or even khaki, pinching Irish High Toast :o))) I don't know - I just brush off the dust :)

    I take pinches from tins since I don't have a snuffbox yet. I lay a napkin out on the table and move the tin around and tap the top as some kind soul here suggested. Then I open the tin and take my pinches. Anything that falls out of my fingers goes onto the napkin. When I'm done, I take the napkin and hold it in a "V" shape so that any snuff that fell on it collects and I dump it back into the tin. It is simple and easy and I don't lose much snuff this way.

    Ha, nice tris,

    fixin2, the best way to keep it cleaner is when you take a pinch, lightly tap your pinched fingers on the rim of tin or box before you move the pinch towards your nose. This will release any loose snuff back into the container instead of your shirt or pants. And when you take a pinch, hold your hand so your palm is facing up so that any snuff that falls from your fingers or your nose as your snuffing falls into the palm of your hand. These 2 techniques work great.

    Good techniques, Trout. My 2 cents: take the pinch with the underside of the finger and thumb, so that no snuff get into the cuticle or under the fingernail.

    The bullet is designed to be snuffed from straight. How convenient. Ashes to ashes. Dust to dust. I heard that the schmalzers don't brush off so easy. I hope one day to find out for myself.
