A hint for book collectors: If you are looking for old tobacco and snuff books, not available at the common stores, I could arrange a contact to a book collector and seller. If interested, just let me know and I give you contact details. He is also fluent in German.
Witam! I'm Maciej from Poland and I'm one of www.gawith.go.pl creators. Alex a have a favore. Can you contact me on my e-maile, becouse I'm intersted in books that you have. Sorry for my English. It's not quite good ;)
Wowsers, Alex, nice list! Now I'm going to have to hunt some of these titles down.
If I might suggest another title: Tobacco: A cultural history of how an exotic plant seduced civilization, by Iain Gately (ISBN 0-8021-3960-4) of 2001, has some information on snuff as well as a general overview of tobacco history. Very readable and not without an occasional sense of humor. Available from Amazon or your local bookstore.
1. 'Tabaka na Kaszubach i Kociewiu' by Jerzy Zając & Edward Zimmermann (Snuff on Kaszuby and Kociew) 2. 'Historia tabakiery' by J. Stankiewicz (The history of snuff-box)
A Pinch of Snuff by Dean Snift is available to read on Google books. I posted this on the Snufftalk board 1 June, but I guess that no one is checking on the board in Andy's absence. I understand that a pdf of the book is available at that Yahoo group. http://books.google.com/books?id=gdwDAAAAQAAJ&pg=PA127&dq=lundy+foot%27s#PPA126,M1
E-book versions of Pinto's "Wooden Bygones..." & Curtis' book on snuffboxes are available at: http://www.archive.org/search.php?query=snuff%20AND%20mediatype%3Atexts%20AND%20collection%3Auniversallibrary
German Language Page "WIE UND WORAUS DER SCHNUPFTABAK GEMACHT WIRD: ODER MANCHE MÖGENS GESCHMALZEN " Entertaining short article that some of you may find interesting interesting.
That's possible. There's not a lot of info on it , but beer was frequently used in early tobacco processing in the belief that it would aid fermentation.
