"... people that don't smoke shouldn't really have to fuck off anywhere if they want to use pubs or bars".

    Why not ?

I've read the Torah, but I must have missed the bit where God said "Thou shalt have the divine right to enter any pub and not encounter cigarette smoke".

    :o)

Smoking in pubs in germany was only allowed in seperate smokers rooms. The problem with this law is that
its the ruin for small pubs who can t offer a extra room for smokers. Now its again allowed to smoke in
smaller pubs or bars. But I think that smoking in pubs will also be completely prohibited in germany in the
    future.

I still think that outside should be considered for smoke free before bars and pubs. Especialy since bars and pubs seem to have more smokers then almost anywhere else. Happily though we have snuff yae.

"Do these warning lables have to be positioned in a certain way, my tins of wilsons come with a bit of green tape going round the tin to seal it, why couldn't the health warning be printed on there instead of the lid face, at least that way when you open the tin you can easily discard the warning label? "
stu, i have not read the legislation but if it is anything like the warnings for cigarette packets; they will have to cover a certain area of the package with a black border, on a white background with a certain text size.

this might explain why the smaller tin has 50% coverage but then i.e. toque 10g it is about 1/3. it covers the same area in relation to the packaging.

Germany is not just "Germany" as it consists of many minor states actually having their own smoking policy. In this way you will find that Bayern has a totally different attitude towards smoking than for example Mecklenburg-vorpommern and other northern states, being the first to ban smoking in pubs. I am a former smoker, but I think that the only way to lower the number of smoke-related deaths is to enlighten people - education! Not bans and witch hunts! They create only martyrs, and no enlightened and healthy population. In Denmark (beer country no one in Europe) there will be an incredible uproar when and if the government decides to put warning label on our local beer!!! I simply think people will brew their own or find ways to avoid the label. Beer is such an integrated part of our culture, so if you label that "dangerous" - we might put a warning label on the Danish flag too saying "Warning! This culture is dangerous and causes serious diseases!" And this is happening in one of the most successful countries in the world - it is a sign of the politically correct times, and I as a historian think it will change again. This is not the first time in history these tendencies in the law makers occurred. It happened before and will happen again. And again.

I agree education is key. It's proven to be the most effective way to get someone to not do something stupid. This accounts for smokeing and drugs very well. Putting a warning on something doesn't really do much. Especialy since the dangers of smoking are so well known (which has droped the number of smokers dramaticly).

And what about the environmental estrogen that leaches into the air from plastics. There will always be something. Do you all know that there is a rare inorganic compound that had been spread over the entire world by a Russian rocket that exploded in the upper atmosphere and that every human alive today has some of this matter in them. A lot of this these types of things are out of our control. Smoking is not going to be one of them. Whatever will be. will be!

Yes we live in a crazy world. The most dangerous thing next to life itself would be cars and the highway system yet it's hard to find people going crazy about making safe driving into some super big deal.

Has anyone seen the movie “Demolition Man”? It shows the kind of world that all the health and warning NATZIS want. The would love nothing more than what the guy in the movie said about the powers that be “they are a bunch of 40 year old virgins, sitting around drinking broccoli shakes, and singing ‘I’m an Oscar Meyer weener’”.
