So it is a good thing that I got to order some, the most terrible thing happened this morning. I was eagerly awaiting a pinch of cj first thing this morning, with a big stupid grin on my face, I open the smash box and somehow fling it into the air, scattering a brown wonderful powder throughout the room and into the carpet. Fortunately I didn't have much left but that big stupid grin very quickly turned upside-down. = (
All been there and done that. I was sitting in the squad car the other morning and using my clipboard to hold a tin of Wilson's Menthol Plus while I was grabbing a pinch (so the overfill wouldn't get all over my uniform when opening the tin) and you guessed it...the clipboard slipped and tin and all hit the floorboard.
If I had been lucky, it would have fell perfectly on it's bottom, with only a slight bit of 'baccy spilling out. Nope, flipped around in mid-flight to dump it all. :-)
Omegapd, next time you arrest a coke head you otta pull out your snuff tin and tell him "if you want to shove something up your nose, at least do it legally. This stuff's a heck of a lot cheaper too!"
I think we need a direct line to Nick at Bespoke. Last time Mars ran out it took 6 weeks or more to see it in stock again. I made the "mistake" of generously sharing my CJ with a few friends and now I keep getting "can I get some more of that Christmas Joy from you". I even sold one of my snuffboxes and was asked to preload it with Christmas Joy "I'll pay for it". I feel like a drug dealer or something. And I feel selfish and stingy because at this point I'm holding out on them. Sorry, but I refuse to run out before the new year!
I had just checked right before my last post 3 hours ago and it said they were out of stock. If it will give you some I'd go for it. 5 grams is better than nothing.
So I decided that bespoke in my opinion has the best grind and moisture level for my taste. Their snuffs are just so silky and smooth but pack a pretty nice nic hit. It probably isn't higher than some of the other snuffs I have, but I tend to take much larger pinches of them because they are so smooth. I am currently enjoying a pinch of gin and tonic that I got in my order today. I don't really know how describe it except that it is very pleasant. It is a little bland, but that is not always a bad thing, and in this case it is very good. I definately want to try their other two offerings. Is stephan's tipple very highly mentholated? From what I read on mars it is barely detectible, and I really don't want to get into many more menthol snuffs.
I'd say the Stephan's Tipple is no more mentholated than the Gin&Tonic. In fact I'd say the Christmas Joy has the highest burn factor of the 4 Bespokes available at Mars. I really enjoy them all as well and agree they do have a nice grind and moisture level.
I'm not necessarily saying there's menthol in it. I was just commenting purely on a burn factor perspective. I'm sitting here with all 4 and I wouldn't say any are mentholated if compared to any Poschl or McChrystal's O&G.
Ok, that is all I was really worried about. I didn't want to end up with another honey menthol, or anything even as stong as the poschl snuffs. Thanks for the info!!
I just got my CJ in today. I ordered 5 and figured it would be 5g in 5 separate containers. Well, they decided to send it in one large container and on the invoice it says "25g + extra". I thought that was very nice of them :) I don't know how much extra they gave me, but I'm not going to look a gift horse in the mouth. I took my first sniff of this snuff about 20 minutes ago. I absolutely love it! It's so smooth and has a decent nic hit to it as well. This will enter the snuff box very soon.
Thats funny that you guys say that about the extra. Mike at Mars (the patron saint of snuff, in my opinion) gave me quite a bit of extra CJ in lieu of a sample. If he hadn't of done that, I wouldn't have had enough to set aside for Christmas morning and I would have done it all WELL before Christmas.
I know I've mentioned this before but De Kralingse Pompadour has done a wonderful job at being my temporary replacement for CJ in the meantime. I still get that holiday-ness that goes so well with my Christmas coffee and Sam Gawith's Christmas Mixture 2007 pipe tobacco that I haven't had too much of a problem saving my CJ stash for the big day.
