    Okay.
I"ve been using nasal sprays since Dec 2007 like clockwork.
    BECAUSE THEY WORK!!!
But, I tried to go off them the other day and I almost died.
Now, with allergies and dust from the work I do, I've taken on these salt nasal sprays sprays.
but, If I go more then half a day without my real nasal spray, it's like sponge up my nostrils.
I've been reading up on " nasal sprays" and they are the work of the devil. Normaly he and I get along great but, he screwed me on this one!!!
Please never use the " otrivins, dristans, or other instant relief nasal sprays.
From what i've read, it takes a good week to come down of this shit.
    EVIL!!!!!!!!!!
I can't sleep at night, unless i use my otrivin.
And it works so fast!!!!! snifff
Any other solutions or remedies for this cold turkey bull shit....

for the love of god help...........I've haven't had snuff in 5 days!! not even menthol works.

Nightcap - I've been there more times than I care to admit. I used every nasal spray on the market that you're not supposed to use for more than just a couple of days, for more than a year myself. I know EXACTLY where you're at and I know there ain't nothing worse but there is NO CURE EXCEPT TIME. Once you use that spray your back on the cycle. Snuff will only make it worse especially the menthols.

Take it from one who really knows - STAY AWAY FROM IT. If you get four days under your belt without the spray and use it just once to get some relief you will pay dearly for it, it's not worth it. A week is an eternity in the shape you're in but it will get better and in 6 or 7 days things will clear up.

Sorry bro, I wish I had more to offer, BELIEVE ME I DO, I know what it's like.

However, you might try taking anti-inflammatories which will help some with your inflammed membranes, seriously. Eat ice cream too - the cold will help with the inflammation as well, no joke it's helped me plenty of times. Using saline sprays and washes might only irritate at this point because your nose isn't full of stuff that needs cleaning out - it's mainly inflammation because it want's nose spray.

Stay off the spray! and as much as you can keep your mind off of things. Put nothing in your nose, no snuff, no saline spray, it will only create more problems. Time and anti-inflammatory measures are your only friends right now....stay with it and you'll be 100% better and spray-free and enjoying snuff again....

just to let you guys know.. nasal sprays.. like neosenephrin and some other over the counter ones.. are habit forming.. and while are not physically addictive can be mentally addictive. You'll feel as though if you go a day without them "you'll die.. or get some horrible stuffy head" If you have alergies go to a doc and get a perscription or an allergy test.. also think about looking into the actual cause of your problem instead of just how you treat it.. this could hlep you on the road to laying off the nose spray :)

    @ Chris

I agree with you in that these types of sprays are not physically addicting in any systemic way but my nose was completely physically unable to function without the use of those sprays when I was on them. Nothing I did made any difference except time and it took a few days.

o.. and while snuff has less a risk of heartattack or stroke as I said in another post .. it does tend to chronically inflame the mucus membrane over time .. causes excess mucus and pressure, cloged nose and post nasal drip. All of these of course only tend to happen with chronic use as well

I was hooked on nasal spray and what helped me get over it was I kept 2 bottles, 1 empty & 1 full. I would take the cap off both and pour just a little of the nasal spray into the empty bottle then add equal amount of salty water mixed with a small amount of baking soda. I would slowly start using less nasal spray in the mix and before I knew it, the salty water baking soda mix worked just fine. Now I just use a saline spray to keep the nose cleaned out. Also there are snuffs that will open the nose up. THe ones that work good for me are Toque Original, Spanish Jewel, Wilsons Strawberry and a few others.

You could always try the Breathe Right Nasal Strips. They work fairly well.

There is also another product that I have tried and works great. It is an all natural nasal spray called Sinus Buster It uses Capsaicin to keep the sinuses open. Also works for headaches & allergies. I would suggest at least looking in to it.

    Update....

    I hate my sinuses!!
    Salt water does nothing.
Pills just increase heart rate and me me feel dizzy.
homemade dissolved mineral salts in reverse osmosis water is a joke.
I got so desperate, i even put vicks vapour rub up my nose, that kind of worked.
    Then it hit me.......

    Cayenne Pepper.
I was making tea out of the pepper when i thought, what the hell.
so i took very small pinch.
Now i've done some pretty crazy shit in my life.
    but this took the cake.
    It actually works.
Burned a bit, but the jucies were flowing!!
I'll take a bit to work withme tomorrow.

I'll do this over spending $20 a bottle on some sinus wash that doesn't do shit!

    nightcap,

Here is a post I have made before that you may find useful.

Here is a recipe for Herbal Snuff used for sinus infections & congestion. You can get the ingredients at most health stores. Or you can buy pre-made here Herbal Sinus Snuff.. You can also add things like orris root powder to your tobacco snuff. It works really well with sinus trouble and has a nice scent as well.

    Sinus Snuff

    1 teaspoon powdered Goldenseal root
    1 teaspoon powdered Bayberry bark
    1 teaspoon Cayenne powder
    1/4 teaspoon powdered garlic
Combine herbs. Place a pinch of the mixture in the palm of the hand. Close one nostril and sniff up the mixture into the open nostril. Repeat with the other side. This will produce sneezing and copious drainage. This formula has antiseptic and antibiotic properties and has been successfully used for sinus infections & congestion.

God I hope you get better. Try to do what the guys say. Just stick it out. No relief after a couple days. You might want to seek professional help for your nose. I wouldn't think it's a sinus infection, but better to be sure.

    thanks trout.

    I'll give it a shot.
    I turned my cayenne powder inot a solution. 1tsp for 500ml h20.
I put it in my nasal sprayer and gave it a shot.
    wowza.
    It was an experience.
My main concern is, i've been raming all these different ingredients up my nose today, and nothing relly gives me relief.
    just snot.

I take over the counter allergy medication Loratadine, generic for Clariton, one pill a day. It's cheap, effective, non addictive, will not make you drowsy and takes care of any common allergy symptoms such as stuffiness. So glad I found it.

One thing that might help you sleep better is keeping a humidifier in your room. Moist air will really help keep your sinuses open & is prescribed by doctors to help with congestion. Also you might want to stay away from the wine for a while nightcap, alcohol can increase the problem.

    Nightcap,
By any chance are the snuffs you are using Menthol? A lot of snuffers find that after a little time Menthol snuffs cause a stuffy nose.

In the begining i thought that menthol would solve the problem but after a little reading on the page. I dropped that idea.

"Also you might want to stay away from the wine for a while nightcap, alcohol can increase the problem. "

    Sadly, it's true.
I had to pass up a very nice Cab Franc Rose last night and stick to my Tea.

This is what i've been using for the last week. http://www.neilmed.com/can/index.php

I'm positive that this is jsut the rebound effect with a little bit of allergies.

But i did wake up this morning with total use of my left nostril.

    getting there... slowly

I use a trick simple when stuffy. Suppose the right side is really stuffy. I then lay on my left side, head propped up with my hand, and palm applying pressure on upper cheekbone and temple. After a few minutes, the sinuses on the right side will drain and open. In bad cases, I may have to flip several times before dropping off to sleep.
It can work at your desk too, but people may think you are depressed or very sleepy. lol
    Try it!

sprangalang, I use that same technique on occasion. The only difference is I prop the head up with the heel of my hand right behind the ear. Seems to work faster if I'm breathing through the mouth while doing this.

Turmeric, the yellow spice in Indian food contains curcumin, a natural anti inflammatory and antiseptic. It has good anti viral properties as well. Highly recommended.

I've posted my comments as to how impressed I am with your progress and diligence on the another thread here but I will reiterate my thoughts again because it's a serious haul up that hill. I will NEVER forget that hell, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever.

I think a great torture technique could be employed here. Make the prisoner use spray for a month and then take it away.

I too do the lay my head on one side till she opens and so on thingy.

cayanne has saved me from this problem before. It burns really badly but then you sinus drop really fast. Used it mostly lately to avoid getting an infection.
