I am spending a week in Columbus, OH next week. I have a lot planned already but I want to know if there is anything you OH guys recommend. Also any stores I can buy snuff? I've only drove through OH before but never spent any time. Just wondering whats there?
Probably aren't many shops you'll find snuff in. American snuffs perhaps, I see a lot of Square Snuff around but mostly in Tobacco Shops. If you're in Columbus and Columbus only, I'd head over to Mongolian BBQ if you haven't had it. Amazing food and a good time. Ohio State has a lot of stuff to see, and you can even pickup some pamphlets around campus that'll give you an idea of what there is to do. See a concert, I'm sure there are several there in the next few weeks. Whatever you do decide to do, don't do it in Maize and Blue. Your week might suddenly take a turn for the worst.
Thanks for the info, always good to know what to look out for, and what to stay away from! Not sure where we will be going during the week. I know we will be taking in a horse race or two, do some gambling. Go OHIO STATE!!! (Just getting ready to fit in)
Wearing the Maize and Blue or anything that resembles the emblem from that "place up north"... Is as near a death wish as driving into Area 51 guns ablazing. Of course you might not be killed per say, but it still might be a good idea to wear a bullet proof vest, or perhaps bring a police escort.. Just as a precaution. Really though, we can be really nice folk :)
My girl and I are going to visit her family in Ohio while up there. They are HUGE Ohio State fans, they have already sent me two shirts to get me into it. If I showed up supporting Michigan, forget about what the people of Ohio will do to me. I won't make it out of their house alive, or even into their house to begin with. Anything about Ohio State I should know, or some info I could use to sound like I know what I am talking about?
A crash course for the newcomer of the Buckeye Nation:
Know that Jim Tressel is the head coach of the football team and anyone who disrespects him might as well openly worship satan in a Roman Catholic Church. Yes.. He might as well be a god in Columbus.
Woody Hayes is perhaps the most beloved Ohio State football coach in school history. Unfortunately his temper got the best of him and he decided to take his anger out on an opposing player. Needless to say, he was dismissed soon after.
Never use the "M" word.. you know.. The one that sounds like Fishigan but starts with an 'M'? Always refer to that dreadful toilet as.. "That place up north".
Anytime someone randomly yells out O-H you should immediately respond with an I-O.
Look up "Hang on Sloopy" and know the good ol' Ohio way to sing it.
The colors are SCARLET and Gray.. not Red and Silver.
The Ohio State Marching Band is also known as "The Best Damn Band in The Land".. And it is one of the largest all brass and percussion bands in the world.
That band performs the Script Ohio, which is the art of marching one or several groups of marching band musicians in the cursive script Ohio.. One lucky Tuba player gets to dot the 'I' in Ohio.. Dotting the 'I' is like being awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor in Columbus.
Brutus is the big headed Buckeye Mascot.. He's the best.
The Football Stadium is know as the "Horseshoe" or "The Shoe".. because of its original shape.
The correct terminology when referencing the University is.. "THE" Ohio State University.. not just Ohio State University.
The football team has 7 national titles, 32 conference titles 7 heisman trophy winners and 175 All-Americans in school history.
Fight song is "Across the Field" and the "Buckeye Battle Cry.."
I could keep going.. But its pretty common place for Ohio residents to know a lot of useless facts about our well loved Buckeyes.. We can be quite rowdy fans at some times.. Flipping cars and burning dumpsters and what not.. But enjoy your stay in Columbus.. America's Heart is in Ohio..
Thank you very much sir! Believe me when I tell you I will remember these facts and randomly drop them when the need arises. These people are going to think I was raised there in Ohio. I guess while I'm there I will have to teach them a thing or two about the greatest baseball team in the world The Boston Red Sox of course!
There is one store in columbus that ive been to that at least used to have a pretty decent selection of wilsons and f+t snuffs. I think is was pipes and pleasures that is listed on the sheffield exchange website. Might be worth a call at least.
worse in some places much less in others. Not quite the same thing but some fans can be very agresive and violent over who's team someone else likes. I can't relate to it at all but it definately happens.
